THE EFFECT OF CYNICISM IN PROVIDING ORGANIZATIONAL TRUST: A CASE OF AIRPORT SECURITY OFFICERS
Abstract
Safety and security are two priorities in the aviation sector. In the aviation sector, which is managed for zero error and risk feature, the entire operation that completed smoothly is the way to ensure the safety of life and property. As a large part of the operation is carried out at the airports, it is the responsibility of the aviation security officer to ensure safety. The fact that the performance of the security officer is at the highest level is one of the important feature to ensure that security services at the airport will not fail. In order to performance of security officer at a high level, it is necessary for the personnel to have no doubt and trust on their institution, managers and colleagues. The way of reducing organizational cynicism, which is defined as the employee's suspicion of organization in general terms, is the trust. The general and organizational cynicism can affect negatively on trust. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effect of general and organizational cynicism on organizational trust of security officers, performed as a profession, at airports and to measure the mediation effect of organizational cynicism. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied to the security officer that working in 51 airports in Turkey. Following Pearson's Correlation Analysis with 96 respondents, the positive correlation was found organizational cynicism with general cynicism and negative with organizational trust. A model of the Structural Equational Model carried out that the mediating effect of organizational cynicism between general cynicism and organizational trust has been tested. Due to the effect of general cynicism on organizational trust was not significant, organizational cynicism has not a mediation effect. Consequently, a model has been proposed a relationship between general cynicism, organizational cynicism and trust.
