Understanding the identity and role of journalism in society is important for analysing the social relations of journalists and the meanings they attribute to their profession. It includes values such as professionalism, independence and impartiality, as well as the basic principles and ethicaln responsibilities of journalism. Conceptual frameworks such as normative and cognitive roles explain how the professional identity and social roles of journalism are shaped. Normative roles refer to the social expectations of journalists, such as informing the public and serving the public interest, while cognitive roles encompass the attitudes and beliefs that journalists adopt as a result of their professional socialisation processes. Narrative roles of journalism include subjective perceptions of how the profession is practised in practice and the effects of these perceptions on public opinion. Journalistic roles are dynamic and ever-changing constructs that play an important role in the evolution of journalists’ professional identity and the reproduction of journalistic culture. In this study focusing on the representation of journalism in TV series, the journalist character in the TV series Fi, which reaches a wide audience, is analysed within the framework of the representation of professional roles of journalism. The study, which was conducted within the framework of thematic analysis with qualitative method, was based on four role categories: normative, cognitive, practical and narrative roles. In the research where the thematic analysis method was adopted, the flexibility provided by this method enabled the data to be analysed and evaluated from different angles in a complex media content analysis such as the Fi series. The character representing journalism in the Fi series strongly reflects journalistic principles such as informing the public, serving the public interest, adhering to ethical values and controlling power holders within the framework of normative, cognitive, practical and narrative roles of journalism. The findings of the study can be considered as an indication that the importance and necessity of journalists who prioritise social responsibility are emphasised.
