The Effect of TÜBİTAK 2237-A Scientific Education Activities on Career Differences in the Undergraduate Child Development Applications Department

Abstract

The Child Development Department includes theoretical and practical applications to prepare theoretical or practical training/intervention programs in developmental areas such as mental, language, social, sensory, physical and self-care for children up to the age of 18. The scope of child development professionals’ work ranges widely, from typically developing children to those with special education needs, children in need of protection, hospitalized children, refugees, or children exhibiting behavioral disorders. The “Career Planning of Undergraduate Students in the Child Development Department” project, conducted within the framework of the TÜBİTAK 2237-A Scientific Education Support Program, aims to enhance students’ career awareness by providing information about these diverse fields of study. The study included 30 undergraduate students enrolled in Child Development programs at both state and private universities. Through online education, 12 instructors covered 12 different topics over a total of 20 instructional hours. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research utilized a career awareness scale as both a pre-test and post-test measure. Ultimately, the study found that TÜBİTAK 2237-A scientific education activities effectively impacted the career awareness of undergraduate students in the Child Development Department. As a result, TÜBİTAK 2237-A states that formal educational activities are effective on the career centers of the licensed child development department.

TÜBİTAK 2237-A Bilimsel Eğitim Faaliyetlerinin Lisans Çocuk Gelişimi Öğrencilerinde Kariyer Farkındalığına Etkisi

Öz

Çocuk gelişimi bölümü, 18 yaşına kadar olan çocukların zihinsel, dil, sosyal, duyusal, fiziksel ve öz bakım gibi gelişim alanlarında teorik ve pratik eğitimler/müdahale programlarını içermektedir. Çocuk gelişimcilerin çalışma alanları, normal gelişim gösteren çocuklardan özel eğitim gereksinimi olanlara, korunmaya muhtaç çocuklardan hastanede yatan, mültecilere veya davranış bozukluğu sergileyen çocuklara kadar geniş bir yelpazeyi kapsamaktadır. TÜBİTAK 2237-A Bilimsel Eğitim Etkinliklerini Destekleme Programı çerçevesinde gerçekleştirilen «Lisans Çocuk Gelişimi Bölümü Öğrencilerinin Kariyer Planlaması» projesi, bu geniş kapsamlı çalışma alanları hakkında bilgi vererek öğrencilerin kariyer farkındalıklarını artırmayı hedeflemektedir. Çalışma grubunu devlet ve vakıf üniversitelerinde eğitim alan 30 çocuk gelişimi bölümü lisans öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Çevrim içi eğitim yoluyla 12 eğitimci ile toplamda 20 ders saati boyunca 12 farklı konu işlenmiştir. Yarı deneysel desenle yürütülen araştırmada, kariyer farkındalıkları ölçeği ön test ve son test olarak kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, TÜBİTAK 2237-A bilimsel eğitim etkinliklerinin lisans çocuk gelişimi bölümü öğrencilerinin kariyer farkındalıkları üzerinde etkili olduğu görülmüştür.
