Neolojizm Çevirisi: İnsan ve Yapay Zekâ Temelli Çevirinin Karşılaştırmalı Çözümlenmesi

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) adlı eserde kullanılan neolojizmlerin insan ve makine çevirisinin karşılaştırılması yoluyla incelemektedir. Çalışmanın temel amacı, neolojizmlere uygulanan çeviri stratejilerini yayımlanmış insan çevirisi, bağlamlı girdi ile üretilmiş yapay zeka çevirisi (in-context, IC) ve bağlamsız yapay zeka çevirisi (no-context, NC) gibi üç farklı çeviri türünde belirlemek ve karşılaştırmaktır. Çalışmanın yönteminde Hurtado Albir (2011) tarafından geliştirilen çeviri teknikleri sınıflandırması ile Noriega-Santiáñez ve Gloria Corpas Pastor (2023) tarafından kullanılan model kullanılmaktadır. Bu çerçeve ödünçleme, sözcüğü sözcüğüne çeviri, açıklama ve genelleştirme gibi stratejileri kapsamaktadır. Daha kapsamlı bir analiz sağlamak amacıyla yanlış çeviri, eksiltme, ikame ve eşdeğerlik gibi ek stratejiler de analize dahil edilmiştir. Bulgular, hedef metinde toplam 159 neolojizmin tespit edildiğini göstermektedir. İnsan çevirisinde baskın strateji olarak ikame öne çıkmakta; bu strateji çoğunlukla neolojizmlerin deyim, metafor veya ikileme gibi benzer biçimsel ve anlamsal işlevleri karşılayan ifadelerle değiştirilmesini içermektedir. Buna karşılık, yapay zekâ tarafından üretilen çeviriler, bağlam sağlanıp sağlanmadığından bağımsız olarak ağırlıklı biçimde açıklama ve ödünçleme stratejilerine dayanmaktadır.

NEOLOGISM TRANSLATION: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF HUMAN AND AI-BASED TRANSLATION

Öz

This study investigates the translation of neologisms in children’s literature through a comparative analysis of human and machine translation, using Roald Dahl’s The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) as a case study. The primary aim is to identify and compare the translation strategies applied to neologisms across three translation types: the published human translation, an AI-generated translation with contextual input (in-context, IC), and an AI-generated translation without contextual input (no-context, NC). The analytical framework is based on Hurtado Albir’s (2011) classification of translation techniques and the model employed by Noriega-Santiáñez and Corpas Pastor (2023), encompassing strategies such as borrowing, literal translation, explanation, and generalization. To achieve a more comprehensive analysis, additional categories including mistranslation, omission, substitution, and equivalence were incorporated. The findings reveal a total of 159 neologisms identified in the target texts. In the human translation, substitution emerges as the dominant strategy, often involving the replacement of neologisms with figurative expressions such as idioms, metaphors, or reduplications that fulfil comparable stylistic and semantic functions. In contrast, the AI-generated translations predominantly rely on explanation and borrowing, regardless of whether contextual information is provided.
