ANALYSIS OF ERRORS MADE BY CHILDREN WITH AND WITHOUT HEARING IMPAIRMENT
Abstract
The aim of this study; to compare errors of hearing
impaired 3th grade students in written operations with students showing normal
development. Working group of the study consists of 30 Hİ (hearing impaired)
and 30 ND (normal development) 3th grade students in Ankara. Groups are created
by selecting students from 3th grade students during 2014-2015 academic year in
Etimesgut county of Ankara. Students taking place in hearing impaired group
consist of students who were diagnosed by counselling and research centre
before and are still attending to primary school. Students taking place in ND
group are chosen from students without any inability, indicated by teacher as
the one who has average success level and who is attending to school which is
located within the same neighbourhood with hearing impaired primary school.
There are 11 girls and 19 boys in the hearing impaired group. There are 12
girls and 18 boys in normal development group. At the end of the study,
analysing every operation made by students. Error types of groups involved in
study about written operation calculations are compared with using t-Test. When
analysis results are considered, it has been observed that Hİ students make
more errors than showing ND peers in all types of errors. In eight of the nine
types of errors, which are subject in the study, significant differences were
found between groups. In any case, error of subtracting big number from small
number which is done by half of the students and error related with zero which
is done by more than half of the students has been found striking.
