DEMOKRASİ VE DOĞRUDAN YABANCI SERMAYE YATIRIMI: TÜRKİYE ÖRNEĞİ / Democracy and Foreign Direct Investment: Turkey Case

Öz

Bu çalışmada, 1984-2018 dönemi için Türkiye’de demokrasi ve doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırım ilişkisi ARDL sınır testi yaklaşımı yardımıyla araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’nin demokrasi gelişiminin, ülkenin kalkınmasında önemli dış finansman kaynaklarından olan, doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımları üzerinde kısa ve uzun dönemli etkilerini analiz etmektir. Ayrıca, Türkiye için yapılan çalışmaların sınırlı sayıda olduğu belirlendiğinden, bu çalışmanın literatürdeki boşluğa katkı sunması hedeflenmiştir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda elde edilen sınır testi sonuçları, demokrasi ve doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımı arasında hem uzun dönemli bir eş-bütünleşme ilişkisinin varlığını hem de kısa dönemli bir ilişkinin olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Türkiye’nin demokrasi gelişim düzeyindeki artışların ülkeye daha fazla doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımı çekmede yardımcı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.

DEMOCRACY AND FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT: TURKEY CASE / Demokrasi ve Doğrudan Yabancı Sermaye Yatırımı: Türkiye Örneği

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between Democracy and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Turkey for the period between 1984-2018 with the ARDL bounds test approach. The aim of this study is to analyze the short-term and long-term effects of Turkey’s improvement of democracy on foreign direct investment, which is an important source of foreign financing in the development of the country. In addition, it has been determined that studies conducted in Turkey are limited in numbers, this study is aimed to contributing to the gap in literature. The results obtained from the boundary test shows that there exist both a long- term cointegration relationship and a short-term relationship between Democracy and foreign direct investment. This study concluded that increase in Turkey's level of democracy development contributed to attracting more foreign direct investment to the country.
