EXAMINATION OF THE PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF THE POSTTRAUMATIC GROWTH INVENTORY-SHORT FORM AMONG INDIVIDUALS EXPOSED TO EARTHQUAKE

Öz

This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish translation of the short form of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI-SF) among individuals exposed to earthquake. The participants of the research consisted of 405 adults aged between 18 and 65, who were exposed to the earthquake centered in Kahramanmaras on February 6, 2023, and subsequently relocated to Mersin. Participants completed a socio-demographic data form, the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory-Short Form, the Civilian Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Questionnaire, and the Meaning in Life Scale. Three models were tested using the confirmatory factor analysis method to determine the best factorial structure of PTGI-SF in the Turkish language. The findings indicate that the five-factor structure has the best-fit indices. Regarding the criterion-related validity of the scale, it was observed that the scores of the scale were positively and significantly related to variables of posttraumatic stress disorder and meaning in life. Finally, the total score and subscales of the scale demonstrated satisfactory levels of Cronbach's alpha and Guttmann’s split-half reliability. The findings suggest that the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory - Short Form, which provides greater temporal convenience in assessing posttraumatic growth in the Turkish language following intense stress, can be effectively utilized.

DEPREME MARUZ KALMIŞ KİŞİLER ARASINDA TRAVMA SONRASI BÜYÜME ENVANTERİ-KISA FORMUNUN PSİKOMETRİK ÖZELLİKLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Öz

Bu çalışmada Travma Sonrası Büyüme Envanterinin (TSBE) kısa formunun Türkçe çevirisinin psikometrik özelliklerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcıları 6 Şubat 2023 tarihinde Kahramanmaraş merkezli depreme maruz kalıp Mersin’e gelen yaşları 18 ile 65 arasında olan 405 yetişkinden (Myaş= 32.25, SS=10.56) oluşmaktadır. Katılımcılar Sosyo-demografik veri formu, Travma Sonrası Büyüme Envanteri- Kısa Formu, Postrtravmatik Stres Bozukluğu Soru Listesi-Sivil Versiyonu ve Hayatın Anlamı Ölçeğini doldurmuşlardır. TSBE- kısa formun Türkçe dilindeki en iyi faktöriyel yapısının belirlenmesi amacıyla doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yöntemi ile üç model sınanmıştır. Bulgular, beş-faktörlü yapının en iyi uyum indekslerine sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Ölçeğin ölçüt bağıntılı geçerliği ile ilgili olarak ölçeğin puanlarının travma sonrası stres bozukluğu ve hayatın anlamı değişkenleri ile pozitif yönde ve anlamlı düzeyde ilişkili olduğu görülmüştür. Son olarak ölçeğin toplam puanının ve alt boyutlarının Cronbach alfa ve Guttman iki yarım güvenirlik puanlarının yeterli düzeyde olduğu görülmüştür. Bulgular, yaşanan yoğun stresin ardından travma sonrası büyümeyi değerlendirmede Türkçe dilinde zaman açısından daha kolaylık sağlayacak olan Travma Sonrası Büyüme Envanteri - Kısa Formunun kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir.
