AKADEMİSYENLERİN ÇALIŞMA ORTAMINDAKİ ÇEVRECİ DAVRANIŞLARI: SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİK PERSPEKTİFİNDEN KEŞİFSEL BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Öz

Sürdürülebilir kalkınma, çevresel, sosyal ve ekonomik sürdürülebilirlik hedeflerine ulaşmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu çalışma, çevresel sürdürülebilirlik boyutuna odaklanmaktadır. Üniversitelerde çevreci davranışların teşvik edilmesi, akademik ve idari personel ile öğrencilerin çevreye duyarlı bireyler olarak gelişimine katkı sağlayabilir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, çalışma ortamındaki çevreci davranışların düzeyini ve demografik değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini inceleyerek, bu davranışları teşvik edebilecek uygulamaları belirlemektir. Yöntem olarak karma yöntemler yaklaşımını kullanan bu kesitsel araştırma kapsamında 106 akademisyen ile anket yapılmış ve çevreci davranışları destekleyici uygulama önerileri değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın bulguları, çevreci davranışlara yönelik teşvik ve ödül sistemlerinin en önemli uygulamalardan biri olduğunu ve bunu bilgilendirme ile farkındalık artırma faaliyetlerinin izlediğini göstermektedir. Çalışmanın sonucu yükseköğretimde çevresel sürdürülebilirlik politikalarının yaygınlaştırılmasına katkı sunmaktadır. Üniversitelerin öncülüğü, hem kampüs içi çevresel performansı iyileştirecek hem de toplumda sürdürülebilirlik bilincini artıracaktır.

ACADEMICS' PRO-ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOURS IN THE WORKPLACE: AN EXPLORATORY RESEARCH FROM A SUSTAINABILITY PERSPECTIVE

Öz

Sustainable development aimes to achieve environmental, social, and economic sustainability. This study focuses on environmental sustainability. The aim of this research is to examine the level of pro-environmental behaviors in the workplace and whether they differ based on demographic variables, while also identifying practices that could encourage such behaviors. Employing mixed-methods research, this cross-sectional study involved a survey of 106 academics, and suggestions for practices supporting pro-environmental behaviours were evaluated. The findings of this study highlighted that incentive and reward systems for pro-environmental behaviors are among the most important practices, followed by information dissemination and awareness-raising activities. In conclusion, this study contributes to the expansion of environmental sustainability policies in higher education. The leadership of universities in this regard will improve environmental performance on campus and also promote sustainability awareness in society.
