Ritual, Rhythm, and Closure: A Visual Narrative Analysis of ‘The Final Song’ in ‘Drakengard 3’
Öz
This article examines ‘The Final Song’, the final rhythm sequence of Drakengard 3’s Branch D (Ending D), as a visual-narrative and audiovisual form of closure. Using qualitative close multimodal visual analysis, it examines a 10-minute screen recording with sound from one successful PlayStation 3 playthrough and six purposively selected screenshots arranged into five figure units. The findings show that the sequence constructs finality through spatial abstraction, monumental scale, audiovisual cueing, perceptual pressure, and ritualised arrangement. Gameplay completion and narrative closure remain distinct but are connected through coordinated image, sound, interface cueing, timing, and player action. The article demonstrates how video game endings can organise perception and performance as part of visual-narrative communication.
