Investigation of Performance and Emissions Effects of Waste Vegetable Oil Methyl Ester in A Diesel Engine
Öz
In this study engine and emission performance of a 4-stroke, 4 cylinder, direct injection 62,5 kW engine, with three different biodiesel blends (B25, B50, B75), was compared with those obtained with use of normal diesel (B0) through a 8-mode experimental test procedure, in convention with ISO 8178-C1. The results of the study showed that, performance and emission values of biodiesel fuels produced from vegetable oil and those obtained with diesel fuel (B0) are very close to each other. In this context, the waste cooking oil, which is a serious risk to the environment and should be collected according to related legistlative measures, could be processed to and used as biodiesel without creating any significant loss in terms of engine performance, while providing significant advantages in terms of engine emissions. These results revealed that, waste frying oils can be used as diesel fuel and to create an adding value for the economy instead of being potential environmental risk.
