Relationship of Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich Syndrome and Sigmoid Colon Volvulus: Report of a Rare Case

Öz

Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome is a very rare congenital anomaly of the urogenital tract involving Müllerian ducts and Wolff-ian structures, and it is characterized by the triad of didelphys uterus, obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis . Unlike HWW, sigmoid colon volvulus is disease of old people. It is very rare at adolescent and young people. There is no information in the literature if there is a relationship between the sigmoid colon volvulus and HWW. Establishing sigmoid colon volvulus diagnose in a young patient with congenital anomaly suggests that there is a relationship between two pathology. In our work, we report a patient; admitted to the emergency service with complaints of abdominal pain, distension, nausea and absence of defecation, got sigmoid volvulus diagnose with abdominal x-ray, had colonoscopic decompression in emergency situation and performed an elective anterior resection operation.
