The Effect of Staining Beverage and Cleaning Solutions on The Color Stability of Artificial Acrylic Resin Teeth

Öz

Objective: The aim was to investigate the color stability of artificial acrylic teeth after soaking in coffee and cleaning solutions and to compare the color changes with acceptable (AT) and perceptible (PT) color difference values.
Material and Method: Forty, A1-colored, acrylic maxillary central teeth were selected and numbered. After initial color measurements (C0) were performed, all artificial teeth were soaked in a coffee solution renewed every 9 hours for 2 days to simulate 6 months of use and color measurements were performed again (C1). The specimens were then divided into 4 subgroups (n=10) to be soaked in distilled water, alkaline peroxide effervescent tablets (Corega), chlorhexidine gluconate (Andorex), and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) cleaning solutions. Cleaning procedures were completed and final color measurements (C2) were performed. ΔE00 were calculated as ΔE1-2 and ΔE0-2 according to the CIEDE2000 formula. Shapiro-Wilk, One-Way ANOVA, Tukey post hoc, and Paired Samples T-Tests were used to analyze the data (α=.05).
Results: Corega and NaClO were more effective on the staining properties of coffee (P<0.05). The highest color change was observed in the samples immersed in coffee+Andorex solutions (5.34±1.03). There was no difference between AT and ΔE0-2 values of the samples immersed in coffee+Corega and coffee+NaClO solutions (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Corega and NaClO cleaners are more effective in removing coffee staining of artificial teeth. Since soaking in distilled water and Andorex solutions after coffee staining results in discoloration above the AT value, removable denture wearers should be informed about coffee consumption and frequency of chlorhexidine gluconate use.

Yapay Akrilik Rezin Dişlerin Renk Stabilitesi Üzerinde Boyayici İçecek ve Temizleme Solüsyonlarinin Etkisi

Öz

Giriş: Amaç, akrilik dişlerin kahve ve temizleme solüsyonlarında bekletilmesinin ardından renk stabilitesini incelemek ve renk değişimini kabul edilebilir (AT) ve algılanabilir (PT) renk farkı değerleriyle kıyaslamaktır.
Materyal ve Metot: 40 adet, A1 renkli, akrilik maksiller santral diş seçildi ve numaralandırıldı. Başlangıç renk ölçümleri (C0) gerçekleştirildikten sonra, tüm yapay dişler, 6 aylık kullanımı simüle etmesi için 2 gün boyunca 9 saatte bir yenilenen kahve solüsyonunda bekletildi ve tekrar renk ölçümleri gerçekleştirildi (C1). Ardından örnekler distile su, alkalen peroksit efervesan tablet (Corega), klorheksidin glukonat (Andorex) ve sodyum hipoklorit (NaClO) temizleme solüsyonlarında bekletilmek üzere 4 alt gruba ayrıldı (n=10). Temizleme prosedürleri tamamlandı ve sonuç renk ölçümleri (C2) gerçekleştirildi. CIEDE2000 formülüne göre renk değişimi değerleri ΔE1-2 ve ΔE0-2 olarak hesaplandı. Verilerin analizinde Shapiro-Wilk, Tek Yönlü ANOVA, Tukey post hoc ve Paired Samples T-Testleri kullanıldı (α=.05).
Bulgular: Corega ve NaClO solüsyonları, kahvenin boyayıcı özelliği üzerinde daha etkili bulundu (P<0,05). En yüksek renk değişimi kahve+Andorex solüsyonlarında bekletilen örneklerde görüldü (5,34 ±1,03). AT değeriyle, kahve+Corega ve kahve+NaClO solüsyonlarında bekletilen örneklerin ΔE0-2 değerleri arasında fark oluşmadı (P>0,05).
Sonuç: Yapay dişlerin kahve lekelenmesinin giderilmesinde Corega ve NaClO temizleyicileri daha etkilidir. Kahve lekelenmesinden sonra distile su ve Andorex solüsyonlarında bekletmek AT değerinin üzerinde renk değişikliği ile sonuçlandığından, hareketli protez kullanıcıları, kahve tüketimi ve klorheksidin glukonat kullanım sıklığı açısından bilgilendirilmelidir.
