Öz

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between renewable energy and economic growth across MIKTA countries for the period of 1990-2020.
Methodology: In this study, Emirmahmutoğlu-Köse Panel Causality analysis is utilized. In this context, horizontal cross-sectional dependencies were first investigated, then homogeneity tests were applied, and unit root tests were performed according to the findings obtained. Finally, causality relationships between variables were identified.
Findings: The findings obtained from the study suggest that while no causality relationship can be identified from economic growth to renewable energy on either a country or panel basis, a causality relationship exists from renewable energy consumption to economic growth on both panel and country levels. When examining the results at the country level, it is found that renewable energy is the cause of economic growth for Mexico, Turkey, and Indonesia. These findings support the growth hypothesis in the literature regarding the relationship between renewable energy and economic growth.
Originality: The study was conducted using modern tests focusing on the relatively new formation in the literature, namely the MIKTA countries.
