Behavioral therapies are primarily used in the treatment of behavioral disorders. Before starting treatment, the underlying cause should first be determined and, if necessary, medication should be used to support these therapies. Factors that lead to behavioral disorders can be either physiological or psychological. Sometimes, behavioral disorders can be treated to a certain level and extent through behavioral therapy, environmental adjustments, and positive reinforcement by the pet owner. In particular, treatment is possible in behavioral disorders due to physiological causes by replacing some biological factors whose release mechanism in the body is impaired or absent. However, to correctly diagnose behavioral disorders, it is first necessary to understand normal animal behavior. In this review, normal animal behaviors will be described, and the pharmacological treatment elements used in behavioral disorders will be discussed.
