Start-Up Örgütlerde Meşruiyet Edinme Stratejileri: Türkiye Bağlamında Bir Örnek Olay Çalışması

Türkiye start-up ekosisteminde yer alan bir start-up, araştırma kapsamını oluşturmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda, start-up örgütler bağlamında, meşruiyet edinme stratejileri ve meşruiyet formlarının nasıl biçimlendiğine dair yapılan açıklamalarla, örgütsel meşruiyet yazınına katkı sunulması beklenmektedir.

Strategies For Gaining Legitimacy In Start-Up Organizations: A Case Study In The Turkish Context

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 31 Sayı: 4, 677 - 694, 21.12.2024

Öz

The start-up is a scalable business model with growth potential. The liability of newness is a concept that explains the challenges experienced by new organizations. As a result of being new, organizations may have low levels of legitimacy. In this study, the legitimacy problem is addressed in the context of start-up organizations. The study aims to understand which legitimacy forms a start-up organization is attempting to acquire through conformity, informing, and manipulation strategies. A start-up located in the Turkish start-up ecosystem constitutes the scope of the research. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and secondary data research. The research findings indicate that the mentioned start-up organization aimed to obtain all forms of legitimacy by implementing actions consistent with conformity, informing, and manipulation strategies. Additionally, the study reveals that the legitimacy acquisition behaviors exhibited by the start-up organization are concentrated on cognitive and pragmatic legitimacy acquisition with manipulation and informing strategies, and there is a high awareness that the organization needs to obtain legitimacy. The study is expected to contribute to the organizational legitimacy literature by providing explanations on how legitimacy acquisition strategies and forms are shaped in the context of start-up organizations. It also aims to raise awareness among managers in the start-up ecosystem regarding legitimacy acquisition problems. The expansion of the scope of the current research is among the recommendations for future research.
