TÜRKİYE’DE ENERJİ TÜKETİMİ VE ÇEVRE İLİŞKİSİNİN SAKLI EŞBÜTÜNLEŞME YAKLAŞIMIYLA ANALİZİ

Öz

İnsanoğlunun ilk çağlardan bu yana çevre ile etkileşim içerisinde olduğu ve Sanayi Devrimi ile birlikte enerji tüketiminin önemli ölçüde arttığı, bu durumun çevresel etkileri giderek daha belirgin hale getirdiği anlaşılmaktadır. Artan enerji kullanımı, çevresel sorunların yanı sıra insan yaşamını da tehdit eden bir boyut kazandırmıştır. Bununla birlikte enerji, yaşamın sürdürülebilmesi açısından kritik bir öneme sahiptir. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’nin 1990-2021 dönemi için enerji tüketimi ile çevre arasındaki asimetrik ilişki incelenmiştir. Analizlerde DF-GLS ve Ng-Perron birim kök testleri kullanılmış ve değişkenlerin birinci farkında durağan olduğu belirlenmiştir. Uzun dönem ilişkisi, yeni nesil bir test olan saklı eşbütünleşme testi aracılığıyla analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca, nedensellik ilişkileri, saklı hata düzeltme modeline dayalı asimetrik nedensellik testi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada enerji tüketiminin, karbon emisyonları ve ekonomik büyüme gibi pozitif bileşenler üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiş ve ekonomik büyüme, modelde açıklayıcı bir değişken olarak yer almıştır. Elde edilen bulgular, enerji tüketimindeki değişimlerin karbon emisyonları ve ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya koymakta; dolayısıyla enerji tüketiminin, bu iki bileşenin asimetrik bir nedeni olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmaktadır. Bu çalışma, asimetrik analiz yönteminin kullanılması bakımından literatürdeki önceki çalışmalardan ayrışmakta ve enerji ile çevre politikalarına yönelik önemli bulgular sunmaktadır.

ANALYSIS OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND ENVIRONMENT RELATIONSHIP IN TURKEY WITH HIDDEN COINTEGRATION APPROACH

Öz

Human beings have been interacting with the environment since ancient times. With the Industrial Revolution, energy consumption increased and its environmental impacts started to be felt. Increasing energy use day by day has brought environmental problems. It has become a threat to human life along with environmental impacts. However, energy is one of the primary factors for the continuation of life. In this study, the asymmetric relationship between energy consumption and environment is analysed for Turkey for the period 1990-2021. DF-GLS and Ng-Perron unit root analyses were performed and the variables were found to be stationary at first difference. The long-run relationship between the variables is analysed using the hidden cointegration test, which is one of the new generation tests. Causality relationships are also analysed by asymmetric causality test based on the hidden error correction model. The positive component of energy consumption, the positive component of carbon emissions and the positive component of economic growth are taken into account. Here, economic growth is included in the model as an explanatory variable. According to the findings, any change in the positive component of energy consumption causes a change in the positive component of carbon emissions and the positive component of economic growth. That is, the positive component of energy consumption is the asymmetric cause of the positive component of carbon emissions and economic growth. This study differs from previous studies by conducting asymmetric analysis. This asymmetric method sheds light on energy and environmental policies in line with the results.
