She is graduated from Istanbul University’s Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine and completed her neurosurgery education at the same institution, where she worked as a faculty member until 2017. She worked as a visiting fellow in Lariboisiere and Necker-Enfants Malades Hospitals, Paris, France
She is the first Turkish woman to become an associate professor (2000) and professor (2008) of neurosurgery.
She speaks English, French, Italian, and Spanish and is a member of the Academia Eurasiana Neurochirurgica, Italian Neurosurgical Society (SINCh), Société de Neurochirurgie de Langue Française, Pituitary Surgeons and Society of Neuroendoscopy. In 2013, she was chosen as the first woman president of the Central Nervous System Surgery Society in Turkey. She was a member of the executive board of the Turkish Neurosurgical Academy between 2015 and 2016 and a member of its scientific research committee between 2018-2020.
She was awarded by Balkan Medical Union Medal in 1984, “Leading Woman Scientist” by the Turkish Association of University Women in 2014 and nominated “Socio Benemerito” by the Italian Neurosurgical Society in 2021.
Her neurosurgical interests are pituitary and skull base surgery, pediatric neurosurgery and neuroendoscopy.
