The Bitlis Eren University Journal of Social Sciences adopts the following objectives to support and disseminate scientific knowledge production in the field of social sciences:
- To introduce original, theoretical, and applied research to academia at national and international levels,
- To encourage interdisciplinary studies and new methodological approaches in social sciences,
- To offer an academic perspective on current social issues at local (especially within the context of Türkiye, Europe, and surrounding regions), regional, and global levels,
- To lead the way in the universal circulation of scientific knowledge and ethical publishing according to COPE standards through an open access policy.
Bitlis Eren University Journal of Social Sciences is open to interdisciplinary academic studies, but primarily evaluates articles produced in Turkish and English in the following fields:
- Geography and Regional Studies

- Educational Sciences
- Legal Studies
- Economics
- Theology
- Communication and Media Studies
- Business and Finance
- Psychology
- Political Science and Public Administration
- Sociology
- History and Cultural Studies
- Tourism Studies
- International Relations
Multidisciplinary social science research that intersects with the fields mentioned above is also within the scope of our journal.
The following points should be considered when writing articles submitted to our journal:
Turkish Language Association Standards: In articles written in Turkish, the current Turkish Language Association (TDK) Spelling Guide and Turkish Dictionary should be used as the basis for grammar and spelling rules.
Scientific Style: A clear, understandable, and objective scientific language should be used in the studies; grammatical errors and everyday expressions should be avoided.
Use of Concepts: Turkish equivalents should be preferred over foreign concepts whenever possible. Foreign terms that do not have a fully established Turkish equivalent or that are mandatory for the discipline should be written in italics within the text.
English Texts: It is the authors' responsibility to ensure that articles written in English (or English abstracts of Turkish articles) conform to academic writing standards (Academic English), are fluent in terms of grammar and terminology, and are error-free.
1. General Formatting Requirements:
Page Layout: A4 size, top and bottom 2 cm, left and right 1.5 cm margins, binding margin 0.
Font Type and Size: Times New Roman should be used throughout the text. The main text should be 11 points in font and single spacing; footnotes, block quotations, and table/figure contents should be 10 points in font and single spacing. Text should be justified. Spacing after paragraphs should be 6nk before and 6nk after. Paragraphs should not be indented.
Page Limit: Articles (including abstract and bibliography) should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words.
2. Title, Abstract, and Keywords
Title: A title reflecting the content of the study, no more than 15 words long, bold, and with the first letter capitalized, should be included in both Turkish and English. The main title should be 14 points.
Abstract: Should be between 150-250 words in both Turkish and English. The abstract should include the aim, method, main findings, and conclusion of the study. It should not contain quotations. It should be written in 10-point font.
Keywords: Should consist of at least 3 and at most 5 words that accurately reflect the topic. JEL codes should follow the keywords.
3. Main Text Structure and Methodology
Articles should generally include Introduction, Conceptual Framework, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion sections.
Method Transparency: The methods section of the article should transparently detail the research design, sampling strategy (e.g., purposive sampling, criterion sampling, etc.), data collection tools (semi-structured interviews, questionnaires), and software used for data analysis (MAXQDA, SPSS, NVivo, etc.).
Titling: First-level headings (INTRODUCTION, RESULTS, and REFERENCES) should be written in capital letters, with the first letter of each word capitalized and in bold; second-level subheadings should be written similarly to first-level headings, but with a 1.0 cm indentation. Third-level headings should be written in bold with a 1.0 cm indentation, with only the first letter of the heading capitalized and the rest in lowercase.
4. Tables, Figures, and Images
Tables and figures must be cited within the text.
Table and figure/image titles should be placed above the table in 10-point font. The source should be written below the image in 9-point font.
5. Citation System and Bibliography
To ensure international standardization in social sciences, the APA 7 citation system should be used in articles. In-text citations should be in the format (Author, Year, Page), and the bibliography should be arranged alphabetically by the authors' last names.
6. Mandatory Statements (To be Added at the End of the Article)
The following statements should be added at the end of the article, immediately before the bibliography:
Statement of Ethics Committee Approval: For all research requiring data collection, such as surveys, interviews, focus group studies, observations, and experiments, it must be stated that Ethics Committee Approval has been obtained (including the name, date, and number of the Committee). (For studies that do not require ethics committee approval, the statement "This study does not require ethics committee approval" should be written.)
Author Contribution Statement: In studies with multiple authors, the percentage contribution of each author to the study should be stated.
Conflict of Interest Statement: It should be clearly stated whether there is any conflict of interest between the authors or with third-party institutions.
The Bitlis Eren University Journal of Social Sciences adopts the highest ethical standards to support the development of an impartial and reputable scientific literature. In its publication processes, our journal is based on the "Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" determined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the TR Dizin journal evaluation criteria.
1. PUBLICATION POLICY
Open Access and Free Publication: No fees are charged to authors or readers at any stage of the process of article submission, evaluation, publication, or access to articles.
Evaluation System (Double-Blind Peer Review): All works submitted to our journal are evaluated using the "Double-Blind Peer Review" method. The identities of the authors and reviewers are kept mutually confidential throughout the process.
Publication Frequency: Our journal is published regularly twice a year, in June and December.
2. PLAGIARISM CHECK POLICY
Articles submitted to our journal must have a similarity rate of less than 20% in a search excluding the bibliography.
Even if the similarity rate is below this limit, the similarity rate from a single source must not exceed 5%. Articles that do not meet these conditions will be rejected or returned to the author for correction.
3. ETHICS COMMITTEE APPROVAL POLICY
Ethics Committee Approval is mandatory for all research (qualitative or quantitative) that requires data collection using survey, interview, focus group study, observation, experiment, and discussion techniques.
Separate Ethics Committee Approval must be obtained for clinical and experimental studies on humans and animals that require an ethics committee decision.
Information regarding the obtained approval (committee name, date, and number) must be clearly stated in the "Methods" section and the declarations section at the end of the article.
For studies that do not require ethical committee approval, a statement such as "This study does not require ethical committee approval" should be included at the end of the article.
4. ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF STAKEHOLDERS
A. Editor's Responsibilities:
The editor objectively evaluates articles based solely on scientific content and the scope of the journal, regardless of the authors' race, gender, religious beliefs, ethnicity, citizenship, or political philosophy.
The editor carefully selects reviewers to be assigned to articles, taking into account their area of expertise and ensuring there are no conflicts of interest.
The editor ensures that the peer review process is conducted in a timely, fair, and confidential manner.
B. Reviewers' Responsibilities:
Reviewers should only accept to evaluate articles that fall within their area of expertise and where they can maintain the confidentiality of the blind peer review process.
Reviews should be objective, academic, and constructive; personal criticism should be avoided.
Reviewers should immediately inform the editor and withdraw from the process if they become aware of any conflict of interest related to the article they are evaluating.
C. Authors' Responsibilities:
Originality: Authors must declare that the submitted work is entirely original, has not been previously published elsewhere, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Scientific Accuracy: Fabrication, falsification, or unfair use of data is strictly prohibited.
Authorship Rights: Individuals who have not directly contributed scientifically and in terms of content to the work should not be included as authors (gift authorship is unacceptable).
Conflict of Interest and Funding: Authors must clearly declare the institutions supporting the research (including project numbers, if any) and any potential conflicts of interest at the end of the article.
