Author Guide

 

This guide has been prepared to inform the authors about the process that encompass the publication process beginning from the article submission stage.

 

Before submitting your article, check its compliance with all of the following:

The length of the article, titles and abstracts: Turkish and English abstracts should be placed at the beginning of each article and abstracts should not exceed 200 words. Title of the manuscript should be written in Turkish and English. In addition, keywords should be around 3-5 words, not more. The length of the submitted manuscript should not exceed 8000 words (excluding bibliography and footnotes).

Writing Rules: The writing rules have been set and put on the journal’s page. The article submitted should be prepared in accordance with these writing rules.

Citations and Reference System: Both in-text citation and bibliography in the Journal of Values Education, follow the standard that is outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition) published by the American Association of Psychologists (APA). This guide can be found on the journal page.

 

At the application stage, the transfer of copyright and plagiarism will be checked first.

Plagiarism Policy

The Journal for Values Education makes sure that the articles do not contain plagiarism and haven’t been previously published, submitted articles will be checked with plagiarism detection software. Article found to have plagiarized will be rejected without reviewing.

Copyright

The Journal for Values Education  has not asked authors of journal articles to assign us their copyright. Authors (or their employers) retain their copyright in the article. All we require from authors is to accept the publication under the CC BY-NC license. All articles published by The Journal for Values Education are published by as open access (irrespective of who funded the research), and reuse is permitted in accordance with the terms of the CC BY-NC open-access licence.

The authors own the copyright of their work published in The Journal for Values Education, and their work is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial International (CC BY-NC 4.0). CC BY-NC license allows the work to be shared, copied, and reproduced in any size and format, except for commercial use. It also allows it to be rearranged, transformed, and adapted, including building upon the original work, with proper reference to it.

When uploading their manuscript to the online system of our journal, the authors read the copyright agreement stated below and upload a wet-signed copy.

Writer(s);

  • The submitted article is the original work of the author(s), and they do not plagiarize,
  • All authors have participated in this study individually, and they take all responsibility for this study.
  • All authors have seen and approved the final version of the submitted article.
  • The article has not been published elsewhere or submitted for Publication.
  • They accept and undertake that the text, figures, and documents in the article do not violate the copyrights of other parties.
  • The copyright of the published article belongs to its author under CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
  • The authors grant the right to freely use the article to any third party as long as the original authors and citation details are identified
  • Nothing in this license impairs or restricts an author's right to preserve the integrity and ownership of their work 

The submission process of the DergiPark system is carried out as follows.

You can start submitting your article by using the “Submit Article” button.

Article submission process consists of 4 stages.

 

1.    Getting Started   (Submission File and Checklists)

·       To state the work is real and authentic

·       Journal for Values Education makes sure that the articles do not contain plagiarism and haven't been previously published, submitted articles will be checked with plagiarism detection software. In case of plagiarism the author would be responsible. Articles with plagiarism are immediately returned to the authors with a report.

·       To state the article do comply with journal’s rules for writing, the Journal’s rules of writing are available on webpage of the Journal.

·       Stating that the article name is uploaded to the system under the title “Author Version.”

·       It should be stated that the content of the accepted submission is kept confidential.

·       The identifying information, including author names, their academic ranks, and institutions will be removed according to the double-blind review guidelines.

·       Stating that the citations and references are done properly. The guide for citations and referencing could be found on the Journal’s website.

·       To state that the Article Type that best describe the manuscript will be selected.

·       The Journal of Values Education accept research papers, review articles, and case studies.

·       To approve the Journal’s “Copyright Transfer Form”.

 

2.    Article  (Article Type, Subject, Priority Language, Metadata, Author, Bibliography, File)

 

·     The article type is entered by selecting one of the three article types previously mentioned. This information is an important point in terms of statistical information about the types of articles published in the journal.

·       In the Subject section, please log in according to the subject under which your article should be classified. This information is an important point in scanning your article.

·       You should enter the Title, Keywords and Abstract sections of your article in both Turkish and English.

·       All authors’ information should be entered in the Article Authors Section. The ORCID number must be entered. In addition, the responsible author who will follow the publication process of the article should be selected.

·       Bibliography should be single-spaced. Bibliography writing rules are available on the Journal’s panel.

·       For document type articles “Full text” should be selected. For articles with Visuals, Tables etc. other attachments could be selected separately.

·       The document title should be “WORD”. For additional files, for example, images are entered as JPEG and tables are entered as EXCEL. It is important to select the appropriate extension of the uploaded file.

·       If your article is produced from a dissertation, put a note to the editor in the explanation section.

·       you can also enter any note that you want to forward to the editor.

 

3. Bibliography

·       Checking whether the bibliography is entered correctly, if mistakes or omissions are found the necessary corrections will be made.

4. Preview & Submit

·       After previewing the article information submission will be completed with a last step warning.

The process of article publication is as follows:

·       The article goes through three-stage process: Preliminary Review, Evaluation, and Editing. 

·       The author follows the process of the article from the “Live Articles” tab.

 

Preliminary Review

·       The article submitted for publication is first examined in terms of its compliance with the journal’s publication policy. As a result of this preliminary evaluation process, the article can be rejected by the editor at this stage.

·       when examined in terms of style, article that does not comply with journal’s principles of publication and rules for writing is sent back to the author to make the necessary corrections.

·       Submitted articles to the journal are examined by a plagiarism prevention program.

·       The article’s metadata can be edited while it is in the preliminary review stage.

 

Evaluation Stage

·       After the preliminary review, the editor directs the article to the field editor. Then the field editor sends the article to at least two journal referees in the related field for evaluation.

·       Academic integrity and scientific quality are the most important criteria in the evaluation.

·       Double-blind refereeing process is applied in the journal.

·       The names of the referees are kept confidential and referrers’ reports are archived for five years.

·       Referees are given weeks for review.

·       If two refereesreports contradict one another, the manuscript will be sent to a third referee or the Editorial Board will make a final decision by examining the reports.

·       The authors are to consider the criticism and suggestions made by the referees and the Editorial Board. If the authors disagree with those critiques, they have the right to appeal against the decision. The Editorial Board would evaluate the objection and decides.

·       Taking into account the feedback of the referees and the Editorial Board, the authors should complete the necessary corrections within one month.

·       The journal retains the right to keep the rejected articles due to preliminary review in its archive.

·       The author can contact the journal through a dialogue box opened to him in the process (if an editor has initiated an action with the author)

·       When the manuscripts that are decided to be published is referred to as “publishable after correction” in the referee report, the manuscript will be sent back to the author to make the necessary corrections.

o   When a correction is requested for the article, all changes in the text should be made in red.

o   The author can prepare a WORD document to address the questions of the referee or the field editor. This document can be forwarded to the field editor from the dialogue box.

o   After necessary the corrections have been made, the article is re-evaluated by checking whether the referee’s warnings are taken into consideration or not. Then the article is accepted or rejected after the field editor evaluation.

·       Following successful refereeing process, the author of the accepted article is required to submit 1500-word extended abstract in English. In order to produce high quality text with international circulation, English abstracts are expected to be carefully prepared. For this reason, the English abstract should include all the titles in the article. It is preferable to contain all sources cited in the article, but this is only optional, not obligatory. After the author submits the extended abstract, it will be examined by the field editor and if approved, then the article is passed to the editing stage. If the field editor does not find the English extended abstract sufficient, s/he can return it to the author and request a correction.

         Editing Stage 

·    Articles which receive positive reports from the referees are directed to the editing step. In this step, under the guidance of the editor; language check, correction and final reading are done by those who are in charge.

·      For Turkish texts, Abstract and Summary sections are required, and Abstract, Öz, Türkçe Özet and Summary sections for texts written in other languages, all will be examined for grammar errors. Texts that require correction will be sent back to the authors.

 

Publication Time

·       Journal of Values Education is published biannually every (25 June and 25 December).

·       Decision on whether or not to publish a submitted paper, is made within four months and the author will be informed of the decision.

·       The journal retains the right to keep the rejected articles due to preliminary review in its archive.

·       Articles that are approved to be published in our journal are listed on the entry of the related issue with the date of submission.

Article withdrawal 

 

·   The author can withdraw his/her article when it is in preliminary evaluation stage. Article withdrawal option is only active in preliminary stage. Articles submitted to referees, accepted for publication or received a DOI cannot be withdrawn.

·    For the withdrawal of articles in the preliminary stage, the author needs to login, once logged in, he or she should click “My Articles” button, then move to the “withdraw” button next to your article. After the withdrawal, the article status appears as “Withdrawn” this will take to “Process History” page. Now the related file and metadata are deleted from the system so that they cannot be processed again.
