Eurasian Journal of Critical Care (Eurasian J Crit Care), as a double-blind peer reviewed journal published by the Emergency Medicine Physicians’ Association of Turkey, to publish original articles, editorial comments, review articles, case reports, letters to editor, scientific letters, clinical imaging and education articles, that can contribute to readers and critical care community.

Editorial and publication processes of the journal are shaped in accordance with the guidelines of the international organizations such as the the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the European Association of Science Editors (EASE). The journal follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (doaj.org/bestpractice).

Originality, innovation, high scientific quality, significant contribution to the existing literature and citation potential are the most important criteria for a manuscript to be accepted for publication. Manuscripts submitted for evaluation should not be previously presented or published in an electronic or a printed medium.

Manuscripts submitted to Eurasian Journal of Critical Care will go through a double blind peer review process. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two external, independent peer reviewers who are experts in the field in order to ensure an unbiased evaluation process. The editorial board will invite an external and independent editor to manage the evaluation processes of manuscripts submitted by editors or the editorial board members of the journal. The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision making process of all submissions.

An approval of research protocols by Ethics Committee in accordance with international agreements (World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki “Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects”, amended in October 2013, www.wma.net) is required for experimental, clinical and drug studies and some case reports. If required, ethics committee reports or an equivalent official document may be requested from the authors. For manuscripts concerning experimental research on humans, a statement should be included that shows informed consent of patients and volunteers was obtained following a detailed explanation of the procedures that they may undergo. For studies carried out on animals, the measures taken to prevent pain and suffering of the animals should be stated clearly and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals should be followed. Information on patient consent, name of the ethics committee and the ethics committee approval number should also be stated in the materials and methods section of the manuscript. It is the author(s) responsibility to carefully protect patients’ anonymity. For photographs that may reveal the identity of the patients, releases signed by the patient or their legal representative should be enclosed.

All submissions are screened by a similarity detection software (iThenticate by CrossCheck).
In the event of an alleged or suspected research misconduct, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others, the Editorial Board will follow and act in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Each individual listed as an author should fulfill the authorship criteria recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE - www.icmje.org). The ICMJE recommends that authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:
1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
3. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

In addition to being accountable for the parts of the work he or she has done, an author should be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the work. In addition, authors should have confidence in the integrity of the contributions of their co-authors.

All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged in the Title Page document during the submission.

Eurasian Journal of Critical Care requires and encourages the authors and the individuals involved in the evaluation process of submitted manuscripts to disclose any existing or potential conflicts of interests including financial, consultant, institutional and other relationships that might lead to bias.

Any financial grants or other support received for a submitted study from individuals or institutions should be disclosed to the Editorial Board and conflicts of interest statement should be included in the Title Page. In the case of ‘no conflicts of interest’, that statement should be in form of: “All authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest regarding this manuscript.”

Editorial Board of the journal handles appeal and complaint cases within the scope of COPE guidelines. Authors should get in direct contact with the editorial office regarding their appeals and complaints. When needed, an ombudsperson can be assigned to resolve cases that cannot be resolved internally. The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision making process of appeals and complaints.

When submitting a manuscript to the Eurasian Journal of Critical care, authors accept to assign the copyright transfer of their manuscript to Emergency Medicine Physicians’ Association of Turkey. If rejected for publication, the copyright of the manuscript will be assigned back to the authors. Eurasian Journal of Critical Care requires each submission to be accompanied by a Copyright Transfer Form (available for download at www.ejcritical.com). When using previously published content, including figures, tables, or any other material in both print and electronic formats, authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Statements or opinions expressed in the manuscripts published in the journal reflect the views of the author(s) and not the opinions of the Eurasian Journal of Critical Care, the editors, the reviewers, the editorial board, the advisory board and/or the Publisher (EPAT). The editors, the reviewers, the editorial board, the advisory board and/or the publisher (EPAT) disclaim any responsibility or liability for such materials. The final responsibility in regard to the published content rests with the authors.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Keywords: The submission must be accompanied by a minimum of three and a maximum of six keywords for subject indexing at the end of the abstract. The keywords should be listed in full without abbreviations.

Manuscript Types

Original Articles:  This is the most important type of article since it provides new information based on original research. The main text of original articles should be structured with Introduction, Materials and Methods (with subheadings), Results, Discussion, Study Limitations, and Conclusion sections. Please check Table 1 for limitations for Original Articles.
Statistical analysis to support conclusions is usually necessary. Statistical analyses must be conducted in accordance with the international statistical reporting standards (Altman DG, Gore SM, Gardner MJ, Pocock SJ. Statistical guidelines for contributors to medical journals. Br Med J 1983: 7; 1489-93). Information on statistical analyses should be provided with a separate subheading under the Materials and Methods section and statistical software that was used during the process must certainly be specified. Data must be expressed as mean±standard deviation when parametric tests are used to compare continuous variables. Data must be expressed as median (minimum-maximum) and percentiles (25th and 75th percentiles) when non-parametric tests are used. In advanced and complicated statistical analyses, relative risk (RR), odds ratio (OR) and hazard ratio (HR) must be supported by confidence intervals (CI) and p values. The handling editor of the manuscript can request data set of the statistical analysis, if he or she finds it necessary.

Editorial Comments: Editorial comments aim to provide a brief critical commentary by the reviewers having expertise or with high reputation on the topic of the research article published in the journal. Authors are selected and invited by the journal. Abstract, Keywords, Tables, Figures, Images and other media are not included.

Review Articles: Reviews which are prepared by authors who have extensive knowledge on a particular field and whose scientific background has been translated into high volume of publication and higher citation potential are taken under review. The authors may be invited by the journal. Reviews should be describing, discussing and evaluating the current level of knowledge or topic used in the clinical practice and should guide future studies to make contribution to the existing literature on the field of critical care. Please check Table 1 for limitations for Review Articles.

Case Reports: There is limited space for case reports in the journal and reports on rare cases or conditions that constitute challenges in the diagnosis and treatment, those offering new therapies or revealing knowledge not included in the books, and interesting and educative case reports are accepted for publication. The text should include Introduction, Case, Discussion, Conclusion subheadings. Please check Table 1 for limitations for Case Reports.

Letters to Editor: This type of manuscripts can discuss important parts, overlooked aspects or lacking parts of a previously published article. Articles on the subjects within the scope of the journal that might attract the readers’ attention, particularly educative cases can also be submitted in the form of “Letter to the Editor”. Readers can also present their comments on the published manuscripts in the form of “Letter to the Editor”. Abstract, Keywords, Tables, Figures, Images and other media are not included. The text should be unstructured. The manuscript that is being commented on must be properly cited within the manuscript.

Scientific Letter: Manuscripts with prior notification characteristics, announcing new, clinically important scientific developments or information are accepted as Scientific Letters. Scientific Letters should not include sub-headings and should not exceed 900 words. Please check Table 1 for limitations for Scientific Letters.

Clinical Imaging / Visual Diagnosis: Images must be typical for diagnosis, and should facilitate rapid diagnosis for critical care and / or should be educational. Please check Table 1 for limitations for Clinical Imaging / Visual Diagnosis. A maximum of three authors should be included.

History: This type of manuscript explains events related to critical care and general medicine and presents information on the history of diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Historical findings should be a result of relevant research studies. Manuscript should not include subheadings. Please check Table 1 for limitations for History.

Tables
Tables should be included in the main document, presented after the reference list and they should be numbered consecutively in the order they are referred to within the main text. A descriptive title must be placed above the tables. Abbreviations used in the tables should be defined below the tables by footnotes (even if they are defined within the main text). Tables should be created using the “insert table” command of the word software and they should be arranged clearly to provide an easy reading. Data presented in the tables should not be a repetition of the data presented within the main text but should be supporting the main text.

Figures and Figure Legends
Figures, graphics and photographs should be submitted as separate files (in TIFF or JPEG format) through the submission system. The files should not be embedded in a word document or the main document. When there are figure subunits, the subunits should not be merged to form a single image. Each subunit should be submitted separately through the submission system. Images should not be labelled (a, b, c, etc.) to indicate figure subunits. Thick and thin arrows, arrowheads, stars, asterisks and similar marks can be used on the images to support figure legends. Like the rest of the submission, the figures too should be blind. Any information within the images that may indicate an individual or institution should be blinded. The minimum resolution of each submitted figure should be 300 DPI. To prevent delays in the evaluation process all submitted figures should be clear in resolution and large in size (minimum dimensions 100 x 100 mm). Figure legends should be listed at the end of the main document.

All acronyms and abbreviations used in the manuscript should be defined at first use in the main text. The abbreviation should be provided in parenthesis following the definition. Acronyms and abbreviations should not be used in the abstract.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

The publication procedures followed by the Eurasian Journal of Critical Care (Eurasian J Crit Care) serve as a foundation for the objective and respected development and dissemination of knowledge. These procedures directly reflect the quality of the work of authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles embody and reinforce the scientific method. It is essential that all stakeholders in the process (authors, readers, researchers, publishers, reviewers, editors) adhere to ethical standards.
The Eurasian Journal of Critical Care adheres to both national and international standards for research and publication ethics. The editorial and publication processes are shaped in accordance with the guidelines of international organizations such as the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the Council of Science Editors (CSE). The journal also adopts the ethical publishing principles published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), as well as the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (doaj.org/bestpractice).
The journal expects all stakeholders to uphold the following ethical responsibilities. Originality, innovation, high scientific quality, significant contribution to existing literature, and citation potential are the most important criteria for manuscript acceptance. Submitted manuscripts must not have been previously presented or published in any electronic or printed format.
Publishing a paper in a peer-reviewed journal is a crucial building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. Peer-reviewed articles support and shape scientific methods. Therefore, reaching a consensus on expected ethical behavior is vital for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, and the publisher. Articles submitted to the Eurasian Journal of Critical Care undergo a double-blind peer review process. Each manuscript will be reviewed by at least two external, independent reviewers who are experts in the field. For manuscripts submitted by editorial board members, an external, independent editor will be invited to manage the review process. The Editor-in-Chief has the final authority over all decisions regarding submissions.
The ethical duties and responsibilities outlined below are prepared considering the guides and policies published by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

Ethical Principles

1. Authorship of the Manuscript: Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All individuals who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included and that no inappropriate co-authors are listed. All co-authors must have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.
2. Conflicts of Interest: Authors: All authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed. Reviewers: Reviewers should inform the journal editor of any potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from reviewing a manuscript if necessary. Reviewers from the same institutions as the authors are not permitted. Editors: Editors must not have any personal or financial conflicts of interest with the manuscripts they handle.
3. Data Access and Retention: Authors may be asked to provide the raw data of their study for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data if possible, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.
4. Fabrication and Falsification: Fabricated and/or manipulated data or experimental results, including images, are strictly prohibited.
5. Duplicate/Multiple Submissions: Manuscripts that have been submitted or published elsewhere are not acceptable. Authors should cite previous work if they have used it as a basis and clearly state the additional contributions of the current manuscript.
6. Intellectual Property Rights:
• Authors confirm that the manuscript and all supporting items are their original intellectual property.
• The manuscript must not contain plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or manipulated citations, and must comply with the journal's authorship policies.
• All drafts, revisions, and typeset versions remain the intellectual property of the authors, unless otherwise agreed.
• Authors, reviewers, and editors agree to keep all communications, comments, and reports confidential.
• Reviewers and editors must keep all manuscripts, revisions, and drafts confidential, except for the final published version.
7. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern:
• Minor errors that do not affect findings or conclusions may be corrected by the editors.
• Articles may be retracted if major errors or violations that invalidate the results are discovered.
• Expressions of concern may be issued if misconduct is suspected but not confirmed. All actions will follow COPE and ICMJE guidelines.
8. Publication of Survey and Interview-Based Research: The journal follows COPE’s “Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” and “Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers.” Research requiring ethics approval must comply with the following:
• Ethics committee approval must be obtained and stated in the manuscript.
• The name of the committee, date, and reference number can be stated in the Methods section.
• Informed consent must be mentioned for case reports.
Studies requiring ethics approval include:
• Research involving qualitative or quantitative data collection from participants using surveys, interviews, focus groups, observation, experiments, etc.
• Experimental or other research involving humans or animals, including material/data.
• Clinical studies on humans or animals.
• Retrospective studies governed by personal data protection laws.
Additional requirements:
• Informed consent for case reports must be obtained.
• Permission must be obtained for use of copyrighted materials.
• Compliance with international standards, such as the Declaration of Helsinki, must be ensured. Ethics approval documentation may be requested. Measures to minimize animal suffering must be detailed.
• Author(s) are responsible for preserving patient anonymity. Written consent is required for identifiable images.
9. Supplementary or Special Issue Publication Policy: At the request of the Editorial Board, one special issue may be published per year. All processes for manuscripts submitted for the special issue are the same as for regular issues.
• Supplementary or special issues are additional issues published outside the journal’s regular schedule. They may include proceedings from congresses/symposia or articles on specific topics.
• Page numbering for supplementary/special issues differs from regular issues.
• The number of supplementary/special issues cannot exceed one-third of the regular periodicals. Special issues containing only congress abstracts are excluded from this rule.
• Case reports, reviews, and original articles published in special issues (excluding congress abstracts) will be included in the article ratio of regular issues.
• Tribute issues are not accepted as special or supplementary issues; they are treated and numbered as regular issues.
10. Journal Policies on Data Sharing and Reproducibility: The journal encourages authors to submit supplementary material and data that support the results in their articles. Any restrictions should be disclosed during submission.
If the data do not violate author privacy, human rights, or other privacy concerns, the journal encourages making such data publicly available. All cited data must be included in the reference list, whether generated by the authors or obtained from other sources. A data availability statement is also recommended.
The journal recommends that authors make all their data fully publicly accessible.
11. Actions Contrary to Scientific Research and Publication Ethics: (As defined by YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, Article 4)
• Plagiarism: Presenting others’ original ideas, methods, data, or works as one’s own without appropriate citation.
• Fabrication: Using false or manipulated data in scientific research.
• Falsification: Distorting research records or data, fabricating usage of tools/materials, or shaping findings to suit sponsors.
• Redundant publication: Submitting repetitive publications as separate works for academic promotion.
• Slicing: Publishing a study in parts inappropriately to increase the number of publications.
• Unjust authorship: Including individuals who did not contribute or excluding contributors without justification, or manipulating author order for inappropriate reasons.
In cases of suspected or alleged misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, citation manipulation, data falsification), the Editorial Board will follow COPE guidelines.
Other Types of Ethical Violations:
• Failing to acknowledge contributors or supporting organizations in publications.
• Using unpublished theses or works without permission.
• Violating ethical rules in human or animal studies or failing to respect patient rights.
• Breaching regulations in biomedical or clinical research.
• Disclosing confidential information from manuscripts without permission.
• Misusing research resources and equipment.
• Making baseless or intentional accusations of misconduct.
• Publishing survey data without informed consent or institutional permission.

• Not obtaining prior approval for research or experiments.
• Violating national or international legal regulations on research.
• Failing to warn stakeholders about potential harms of research.
• Misusing or disclosing third-party data or confidential information.
• Making false or misleading claims in academic promotion or applications.
12. Authors' Ethical Responsibilities:
• Studies must be original and based on research.
• Co-authors must have contributed; non-academic additions or author order manipulation is unethical.
• Contributions of each author in multi-author papers must be clearly indicated.
• Manuscripts must not be under consideration elsewhere or previously submitted.
• Submission implies authors have read and accepted the journal’s editorial policies.
• Proper citation and a complete reference list are required.
• Plagiarism and fabricated data are unacceptable.
• Similarity reports must show less than 30% overlap for peer review to proceed.
• Manuscripts may be pre-reviewed twice only. Failure to revise results in rejection.
• Rejected manuscripts should not be resubmitted unchanged.
• The corresponding author must inform the editor of any conflicts of interest.
Authors must meet all four authorship criteria recommended by the ICMJE:
1. Significant contribution to the conception, design, data collection, analysis, or interpretation.
2. Drafting or critical revision of the work.
3. Final approval of the version to be published.
4. Accountability for all aspects of the work and ensuring accuracy and integrity.
All individuals listed as authors must meet all four criteria. Individuals who meet the criteria must be listed as authors. Those who do not should be acknowledged in the title page.
13. Reviewers' Ethical Responsibilities:
• Reviewers must act with the awareness that they are key to the journal’s academic quality.
• Only reviewers with appropriate expertise should accept reviews and must maintain confidentiality.
• No part of the review should be disclosed to third parties.

Manuscript submissions to the Eurasian Journal of Critical Care are made through the "Manuscript Management System" at https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/journal/2851/submission/step/manuscript/new. Manuscripts sent via email are not considered.
Preliminary Review and Plagiarism Check
The manuscript is reviewed for compliance with the journal's writing guidelines and is subjected to a similarity check to prevent plagiarism. The IThenticate plagiarism detection software is used. A similarity rate of less than 30% is required. If the similarity rate exceeds 30%, the manuscript is either rejected or sent back to the author for revision to reduce the similarity rate. Preliminary review is completed within a maximum of 30 days.
Editor / Associate Editor Review
Manuscripts that pass the preliminary review and plagiarism check are reviewed by the relevant editor or associate editor for topic relevance, scope, language, and academic adequacy. This review is completed within a maximum of 30 days.
Peer Review Process (Double-Blind Review)
Manuscripts that pass preliminary and editor reviews are evaluated confidentially under a double-blind peer review system. Authors do not know who the reviewers are, and reviewers do not know the identity of the authors. Reviewer reports are stored in the Manuscript Management System. For more details, please visit the Reviewer Guide page.
Author Revision
Authors take into account the critiques and suggestions from reviewers and the Editorial Board. If they disagree with certain points, they have the right to object with justification. They revise the manuscript accordingly and upload the final version to the system.
Associate Editor Check
The associate editor checks whether the requested revisions have been made. If a "Major Revision" is indicated in the reviewer reports, the manuscript is sent back to the reviewer. If "Acceptance" or "Minor Revision" is indicated and the changes are made, the manuscript can be forwarded for language editing (this check is completed within a maximum of 7 days). If revisions are not made, the manuscript is returned to the author. If the author fails to make revisions again, the manuscript may be rejected. Manuscripts not accepted for publication are not deleted from the system; the stage and all files are recorded in the system.
English Language Editing
Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by the English Language Editor, and corrections are requested from the author if necessary. This process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.
Editorial Board Review
Manuscripts that pass technical, academic, and language evaluations are reviewed by the Editorial Board to decide on final publication. If any objections arise, the Board makes a decision by majority vote.
By submitting a manuscript to Eurasian Journal of Critical Care, authors agree to transfer the copyright of their work to the Emergency Medicine Physicians Association of Turkey. If the manuscript is rejected for publication, copyright will be returned to the authors. A Copyright Transfer Form (available at www.ejcritical.com) must accompany every submission. When using previously published content (figures, tables, or other materials), authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder. This ensures the Publisher (VM Group Academy) can manage copyright on behalf of the Authors and EPAT, while allowing continuous academic use by the Author.
Typesetting and Layout
Accepted manuscripts are typeset and formatted for publication.
Language of Publication
Only English-language manuscripts are published in the Eurasian Journal of Critical Care. A Turkish abstract is not required, but an English abstract must be included. Abstracts, excluding cover letters, must be limited to 250 words. Abstracts of original articles should be structured with the subheadings: Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Authorship Changes
The journal recognizes authors as listed on the Title Page. Therefore, it is the authors’ responsibility to submit the final author list. Requests for changes to authorship (e.g., additions, removals, reordering) after submission are subject to editor approval. The Editorial Board will investigate such cases and act in accordance with COPE flowcharts.
Requests for authorship changes must be submitted to the Editor with a formal letter explaining the reasons, signed by all authors, indicating their approval of the change. If the request is approved, a new Copyright Agreement Form must be submitted according to the final author list.
Complaints and Appeals
Eurasian Journal of Critical Care handles complaints and appeals according to the procedure below. Complaints are not limited to long delays or publication ethics but are first handled by the Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief may consult the Editorial Board if necessary. For any complaint or appeal, please contact info@atuder.org.tr.
Complaints About the Content of a Manuscript
The Editor-in-Chief evaluates author complaints and reviewer reports and makes a decision:
• Confirm the rejection of the manuscript
• Consider the author's appeal
• Obtain a new opinion from an independent reviewer
The final decision is communicated to the authors, with explanations provided as needed. This decision is final. The Editorial Board evaluates cases in accordance with COPE guidelines. Authors must contact the editorial office directly. If necessary, an ombudsperson may be appointed. The Editor-in-Chief is the final authority in appeals and complaints.
Complaints About the Process
Complaints regarding the process are handled by the Editor-in-Chief. Long delays in manuscript handling are investigated by the journal editors and shared with the Editor-in-Chief if needed. The Editor-in-Chief evaluates the complaints and shares information with authors as necessary.
Complaints About Ethical Principles
The Editor-in-Chief evaluates complaints from authors or reviewers regarding publication ethics. The journal adheres to the publication ethics stated on its website. The Editorial Board investigates concerns raised by complainants or reviewers. Investigation details and progress are shared clearly with the complainants. The Editor-in-Chief or associate editors provide feedback on the course of action and final decision.
Any financial grant or other support received for a submitted study must be disclosed to the Editorial Board. A conflict of interest statement must be included on the Title Page. If there is no conflict, the statement should read: “All authors declare that there is no conflict of interest related to this manuscript.”
