INVESTIGATING OF 3RD AND 4TH GRADE STUDENTS' SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING SKILLS WITH RESPECT TO DIFFERENT VARIABLES

Abstract

This research aimed to understand the third and fourth grade primary students' level of social-emotional learning skills. Besides, the research also examines the students' social-emotional learning skills in terms of various variables. Social-Emotional Learning Skills Scale is used to collect data. Firstly, primary students' social emotional learning levels are determined. Then, their social emotional learning skills are examined according to gender, age, class level, location they live in, parental education status and students' Turkish and Math’s grades. Findings of this research revealed that students show higher social-emotional learning skills. There is a significant difference regarding the mothers’ educational status in favor of high school and there are also no significant difference found students' social-emotional learning skills according to the fathers’ educational status. Also, there is a significant difference of students' social-emotional learning levels according to the Turkish-Math grades in favor of successful students.

3. VE 4. SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN SOSYAL-DUYGUSAL ÖĞRENME BECERİLERİNİN ÇEŞİTLİ DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Bu araştırmada ilkokul üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyal-duygusal öğrenme becerileri düzeylerini belirlemek ve sosyal-duygusal öğrenme becerilerini çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, Sosyal-Duygusal Öğrenme Becerisi Ölçeği aracılığı ile öğrencilerin sosyal-duygusal öğrenme düzeyleri belirlenerek, cinsiyet, yaş, sınıf düzeyi, yerleşim birimi, anne-baba eğitim durumu ve Türkçe-Matematik ders başarısı değişkenlerine göre ilkokul üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyal-duygusal öğrenme becerileri incelenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda, öğrencilerin sosyal-duygusal öğrenme düzeyleri Her Zaman olarak belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin sosyal-duygusal öğrenme becerileri cinsiyete göre anlamlı farklılık göstermemektedir. Sınıf ve yaş değişkenlerine ilişkin bulgular incelendiğinde her iki değişken için de ölçeğin tamamında anlamlı farklılık bulunmamakla birlikte, sınıf düzeyinde özgüven, dürtü kontrolü ve arkadaşlık ilişkileri faktörlerinde üçüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin lehine; yaş değişkeninde ise arkadaşlık ilişkileri ve arkadaşlık algısı faktörlerinde 8 yaşındaki öğrencilerin lehine anlamlı farklılık görülmektedir. Anne eğitim durumunda ölçeğin tamamında annesi lise mezunu olan öğrencilerin; baba eğitim durumunda ise başarı, süreklilik ve arkadaşlık ilişkileri faktörlerinde babası üniversite mezunu olan öğrencilerin, özgüven faktöründe babası ilkokul mezunu olan öğrencilerin ve özyönetim faktöründe ise babası lise mezunu olan öğrencilerin lehine anlamlı farklılık görülmektedir. Öğrencilerin yaşamış oldukları yerleşim birimine göre sosyal-duygusal öğrenme becerilerinde anlamlı farklılık bulunmamaktadır. Türkçe ve Matematik dersi başarısı değişkenine göre ise Türkçe ve Matematik başarısı Çok İyi olan öğrencilerin lehine anlamlı farklılık görülmektedir.
