I was born in 1976 in Gedikli Village of Sarkikaraagac District of Isparta Province. I went to primary school in Gedikli Village, secondary school and high school in Şarkikaraağaç. In 1994, I won the Afyon Kocatepe University İscehisar Vocational School of Stone and Metal Processing and graduated from there in January 1997. Between August 1997 and January 1998, I worked as a department manager at Meram Marble and Mining Co., which is owned by Kombassan Holding in Konya. In 1998 university entrance exam I won the Ankara University Faculty of Languages History and Geography Department of Sociology. After graduating from here in 2002, I started to work as a research assistant at Süleyman Demirel University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology. I completed my master's degree in 2005 and my doctorate in 2019 in the field of sociology.

Prof. Dr. Şahin Karasar, lisans eğitimini Anadolu Üniversitesi İletişim Bilimleri Fakültesi’nde, yüksek lisansını Marquette University Wisconsin’de ve doktorasını Anadolu Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü’nde tamamlamıştır. 2001-2004 yıllarında Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi’nde bölüm başkanlığı, dekan yardımcılığı ve rektör yardımcılığı görevlerini üstlenmiş, 2004-2005 yıllarında Kırgızistan-Türkiye Manas Üniversitesi'nde Radyo, Televizyon ve Sinema Bölüm Başkanı olarak görev yapmıştır. 2005’te Maltepe Üniversitesi’nde Dekan Yardımcısı olarak göreve başlayan Karasar, 2007-2010 yılları arasında Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Dekanlığı ve Rektör Yardımcılığı yapmıştır. 2010’da Türk Hava Yolları’nda Eğitim Başkanı olarak çalışmış, 2013-2022 yılları arasında Maltepe Üniversitesi Rektörlüğü görevini yürütmüştür. 2022 yılında T.C. MEB Şikago Eğitim Ataşeliği’ne atanmıştır. Halen İçişleri Bakanlığı Jandarma ve Sahil Güvenlik Akademisi Öğretim Üyesidir.
