Author Guidelines

This section provides author(s) with general information about the application process and the post-application stages before submitting their application.

  • You can submit your article to the International Journal of Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language (IJOTFL) by registering at https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/ijotfl and uploading it to the system. Applications are not accepted via email.
  • All communication during the application process is made via email and the website.
  • It is recommended that you check your spam folder in case emails are considered spam.

  • Articles must be written in accordance with the journal's writing guidelines and adhere to the article template.
  • Articles that do not comply with the writing guidelines will be rejected without being evaluated.
  • Articles submitted to our journal must comply with publication ethics.
  • You must not include personal information such as your name and surname in the article file you upload to the system during your application. You must upload a "WORD" file of your article as the "full text" file type in the article files section of the system.
  • When the article is first uploaded to the system, author names must be fully entered in the registration form completed on the website. No author names can be added or removed from submitted articles after the process begins.
  • Submitted articles must be original. They must not have been submitted for publication elsewhere and must not have been published.
  • Authors must obtain a similarity (plagiarism) report for the candidate article and upload it to the system at the time of application. (The work must be reviewed with a similarity program such as Turnitin or iThenticate, and the similarity rate for the entire article must be less than 15% and the similarity rate to a single source must be less than 3%.) Manuscripts that do not meet the similarity rate limits will be rejected without being evaluated.
  • The copyright for the published work belongs to the journal. All ethical responsibilities for the published work rest with the author(s). Authors assume full responsibility for any copyright infringement, plagiarism, or other violations.
  • Authors must ensure they adhere to all guidelines. Articles that do not comply with the specified guidelines will be rejected.
  • The article must be written in Turkish or English. For Turkish articles, an extended abstract (750-1000 words) must be prepared in English, and for English articles, an extended abstract (750-1000 words) in Turkish must be prepared.
  • The reference list must be organized in accordance with the principles and procedures of the 7th edition of the APA Citation Guidelines.
  • In-text citations for each citation in the reference list must be verified to ensure they are properly cited.
  • Authors should not expect the submitted article to be published in the first issue following the date it is submitted to the journal. The peer-review process for articles varies depending on the field.
  • No royalties are paid for published articles.
  • It is recommended that submitted manuscripts not exceed 20 pages (10,000 words).
  • For studies requiring Ethics Committee approval, information regarding the approval (committee name, date, and issue number) must be included in the methods section and also on the first and last pages of the article.
  • In case reports, information indicating that the informed consent form was signed must be included in the article. For studies conducted using qualitative or quantitative approaches requiring data collection from participants using surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, or interview techniques, and requiring an ethics committee approval, separate ethics committee approval must be obtained, and this approval must be stated and documented in the article. Furthermore, permission must be obtained and stated from the owners for the use of scales, surveys, and photographs belonging to others, and it must be stated that copyright regulations are complied with for the intellectual and artistic works used.
  • Retrospective ethics committee approval is not required for articles using research data from before 2020, articles produced from master's/doctoral studies (which must be stated in the article), articles submitted to the journal the previous year, articles accepted but not yet published.
  • Non-university researchers can apply to their local Ethics Committees for an Ethics Committee Report.
