Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
The publication processes applied at İnönü University International Journal of Social Sciences (INIJOSS) form the basis for the unbiased and reputable development and distribution of knowledge. The processes implemented in this direction directly reflect the quality of the works of the authors and the institutions supporting them. Peer-reviewed studies embody and support the scientific method. At this point, it is important for all stakeholders in the process (authors, readers and researchers, publishers, reviewers, and editors) to adhere to ethical standards. Our journal expects all stakeholders to uphold the following ethical responsibilities within the scope of publication ethics.

(The ethical duties and responsibilities outlined below have been prepared by taking into account the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as open access.)

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is a fundamental building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. This is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and shape scientific methods. Therefore, it is important for all parties involved in the publication process—authors, journal editors, reviewers, and publishing organizations—to agree on the standards of expected ethical behavior:

1. Authorship
The reference list must be complete.

Plagiarism and fabricated data should not be included.

Attempts to publish the same research in multiple journals should be avoided, and scientific research and publication ethics must be adhered to.

Actions contrary to scientific research and publication ethics include:

a) Plagiarism: Presenting others' ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, figures, or works as one's own, partially or completely, without proper scientific attribution.

b) Fabrication: Producing data that is not based on research, manipulating or altering the presented or published work based on non-existent data, reporting or publishing such data, or presenting research that was not conducted as if it were.

c) Falsification: Manipulating research records and obtained data, presenting methods, devices, and materials not used in the research as if they were, excluding data that does not align with the research hypothesis, manipulating data and/or results to fit relevant theories or assumptions, or distorting or shaping research results to align with the interests of supporting individuals or organizations.

ç) Duplicate Publication: Presenting multiple works containing the same results of a single research as separate works in associate professorship evaluations and academic promotions.

d) Salami Slicing: Dividing the results of a single research into inappropriate parts, publishing them in multiple works without cross-referencing, and presenting them as separate works in associate professorship evaluations and academic promotions.

e) Unjust Authorship: Including individuals who did not actively contribute as authors, excluding individuals who actively contributed, changing the order of authors without justification, removing the names of active contributors during or after publication, or using influence to include one's name as an author without active contribution.

f) Other Types of Ethical Violations: Failing to clearly state the contributions of supporting individuals, institutions, or organizations in publications of supported research, failing to adhere to ethical rules in research involving humans and animals, failing to respect patient rights in publications, sharing information from a work under review with others before publication, misusing resources, spaces, opportunities, and devices allocated for scientific research, and making baseless, unjustified, and deliberate accusations of ethical violations (YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, Article 8).

2. Authors' Responsibilities
All authors must have significantly contributed to the research.

It must be declared that all data in the article are real and original.

All authors are responsible for ensuring retractions and corrections of errors.

3. Reviewers' Responsibilities
Evaluations must be impartial.

Reviewers must not have conflicts of interest with the research, authors, and/or research funders.

Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited.

Reviewed articles must be kept confidential.

4. Editorial Responsibilities
Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article.

Editors must not have conflicts of interest regarding the articles they accept or reject.

Only articles that contribute to the field should be accepted.

Editors should support the publication of corrections or retractions when errors are found.

Editors must keep the identities of reviewers confidential and prevent plagiarism/fabricated data.

Readers who notice a significant error or inaccuracy in an article published in INIJOSS or have any complaints regarding editorial content (plagiarism, duplicate articles, etc.) can email inijoss@inonu.edu.tr to report their findings.

5. Ethics Committee Approval
Articles to be published in INIJOSS must indicate on the first page whether ethics committee approval and/or legal/special permission is required. If such permissions are required, it must be clearly stated from which institution, on what date, and with which decision or number the permission was obtained. Additionally, if a study submitted to INIJOSS involves the use of human or animal subjects, it must be declared that the study was conducted in accordance with international declarations, guidelines, etc.

Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive
The "SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION ETHICS DIRECTIVE," prepared to determine the ethical rules to be followed in scientific research, studies, publications, and activities, as well as the duties, authorities, and responsibilities of scientific research and publication ethics boards to be established within higher education institutions, can be accessed by clicking here.
