Field Experience Scale-Mathematics: A Reliability and Validity Study

Abstract

This research aims to develop a measurement tool in order to determine the experiences of pre-service primary school teacher in teaching mathematics. The difficulties faced by the pre-service primary school teacher in teaching mathematics during internship practices, their positive and negative experiences in mathematics lessons, and their opinions within the scope of their suggestions for internship applications courses in order to provide an effective mathematics teaching constitute the scale items of this scale development study. In this context, data were collected from 302 pre-service primary school teacher. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was applied for the validity studies of the scale. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficients were calculated for reliability studies. The scale developed in this direction consists of 21 items and is in the 5-point Likert type. There are 5 sub-dimensions in the scale: receiving feedback, teaching difficulties, communication and classroom management, teaching anxiety and the role of the primary school teacher. Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficients for the sub-dimensions of the scale were calculated as .877, .836, .815, .726 and .710, respectively. The reliability coefficient for the whole scale was determined as .853. The results obtained indicate that the Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficients are above .8 and the scale is highly reliable. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, it was determined that there was an acceptable level of fit for the five-factor model. It has been revealed that the scale developed in this direction is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to determine the experiences of pre-service primary school teacher in teaching mathematics.

Öğretmenlik Uygulaması Deneyim Ölçeği-Matematik: Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması

Abstract

Bu araştırma, sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının matematik öğretimine ilişkin deneyimlerini belirlemek amacıyla bir ölçme aracı geliştirilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının staj uygulamaları sırasında matematik öğretmede karşılaştıkları güçlükler, matematik derslerinde yaşadıkları olumlu ve olumsuz deneyimler ve etkili bir matematik öğretimi yapılabilmesi için staj uygulamaları derslerine ilişkin önerileri kapsamındaki görüşleri, bu ölçek geliştirme çalışmasının ölçek maddelerini oluşturmaktadır. Bu kapsamda veriler, 302 sınıf öğretmeni adayından toplanmıştır. Ölçeğin geçerlik çalışmaları için açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi uygulanmıştır. Güvenirlik çalışmaları için Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayıları hesaplanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda geliştirilen ölçek 21 maddeden oluşmaktadır ve 5’li Likert tipindedir. Ölçekte dönüt alma, öğretim güçlükleri, iletişim ve sınıf yönetimi, öğretim kaygısı ile sınıf öğretmenin rolü olmak üzere 5 alt boyut yer almaktadır. Ölçek alt boyutları için Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayıları sırasıyla .877, .836, .815, .726 ve .710 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Ölçeğin bütünü için güvenirlik katsayısı .853 olarak belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar Cronbach alfa güvenirlik katsayıları değerin .8 üzerinde oluşu ölçeğin yüksek derecede güvenilir olduğu şeklinde nitelendirilmektedir. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda beş faktörlü model için kabul edilebilir düzeyde uyum gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda, geliştirilen ölçeğin sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının matematik öğretimine ilişkin deneyimlerini belirlemek amacıyla kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.
