Determination of the Primary School Students Awareness Levels towards Values: Case of Hospitality

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to determine the possibility of the reinforcement
the value of hospitality and the norms about hospitality which have an important statute
in Turkish culture, in the minds of 8th grade students, through stories. It was intended to
determine the interpretations of the students about hospitality through a story that told them
by researchers. Because of this, it was asked students to summarize the story which was
told them and add their own interpretations in this process and write this. Their responses
analyzed with codes and themes. Following results are attained in this study: (1) Students
can explain the events and cause- effect relationships through story. (2)Students can realize
the intentions and the motives of behaviors. (3)Stories are effective in teaching process of
values.

İlköğretim Öğrencilerinin Değerlere Yönelik Farkındalık Düzeylerinin Belirlenmesinde Öykülerden Yararlanma: Misafirperverlik Değeri

Abstract

ÖZET
Bu araştırmanın temel amacı 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin zihinlerinde Türk kültüründe
önemli bir yeri olan misafirperverliğin değerinin ve misafirperverlik kurallarının
pekiştirilmesinin, bu konuların işlendiği hikâyelerin anlatımı ile mümkün olup olmadığının
tespitidir. Öğrencilere yöneltilen bir öykü aracılığıyla öğrencilerin bu öyküdeki değerler
konusundaki yorumlarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda öğrencilerden
kendilerine okunan öyküyü kendi yorumlarını da katarak özetlemeleri ve bir kâğıda
yazmaları istenmiştir. Alınan yanıtlar kod ve temalar oluşturularak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma
sonucunda şunlara ulaşılmıştır: (1) Çocuklar öykü sayesinde olayları ve neden-sonuç
ilişkilerini kolaylıkla açıklayabilmişlerdir. (2) Öğrenciler açık niyetleri ve davranışların
nedenlerini fark edebilmişlerdir. (3) Değerlerin öğretilmesinde öyküler etkili olmaktadır.
