Architecture and Life Journal aims to contribute to the scientific developments and academic discussions in the fields of architecture and urban studies by making the scientific research conducted in these fields visible.

The journal accepts articles that can be evaluated under the headings of Architectural Design, Architectural History-Theory-Criticism, Building Technologies, Construction Production, Building Physics, Architectural Heritage and Preservation, Structural Engineering, Project Management and Construction Management, Architecture, Urban Planning and Urban Studies, Architecture-Technology, and Interior Architecture.

For articles submitted to our journal to be considered for review, they must meet the following criteria of scientific rigor:

1. Originality and Innovation: The paper should present new knowledge, approaches, or findings in the field of architecture and urban planning.

2. Methodological Clarity: The research methodology should be clearly defined and implemented.

3. Verifiability: The data and results presented should be replicable by independent researchers.

4. Impact and Contribution: The concrete contribution and impact of the research on the field should be clearly stated.

5. Ethical Compliance: Research must be conducted and reported in accordance with ethical standards.

6. Comprehensive Literature Review: A thorough and critical review of the existing literature related to the topic should be conducted.

7. Coherent and Understandable Presentation: The findings of the research should be presented in a logical order and in comprehensible language.

Article Types

The classification criteria for articles to be published in our journal are as follows:

Review Article:

A review article systematically collects, evaluates, and synthesizes existing literature on a specific topic. This type of article summarizes the current knowledge in the field, offers a critical review, and provides in-depth information on a particular subject. It is often used to identify gaps in knowledge, guide future research, and discuss theoretical frameworks or methodologies.

A Review Article;

- Should comprehensively survey the existing literature and provide an in-depth summary of the topic.

- Must synthesize different studies, contributing to a general understanding of a particular subject.

- Needs to critically assess the current knowledge and identify gaps in the research area.

Research Article:

A research article presents new scientific research results. It contributes to science with original data collection, hypothesis testing, and analysis of results. These articles provide detailed information about the authors' own experiments, studies, or observations, clearly outlining the methodology, data analysis, and findings. A research article should contain novelty in its field and offer concrete contributions to the scientific community.

Research Article:

- Must contain original research findings, data, and analyses.

- Should be structured around a clear research question and be methodologically sound.

- Needs to describe every step of the research process in detail and present it with supporting data.

- The results should advance the current knowledge in the field and provide a specific contribution.

Author Guidelines

*Articles must be uploaded as Word files so that referees can add comments. The "Abstract" and "Öz" (Summary in Turkish) sections are examined by referees when evaluating the invitation. Therefore, these sections should include the objective, method, results, and evaluations of the study. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words. For articles written in English, the "Abstract" section should come before the "Öz" section. The article should not include information outside the journal format, such as university/institution emblems.

*If the article is produced from a thesis or within the scope of a project, it should be indicated.

*In the last section of the article, the Author Contribution, the Acknowledgment, if any, and the Conflict of Interest Statement should be included.

*Articles that receive a revision request from referees are edited by the author(s) in line with the referees' requests and then resent to the journal for publication. The revised article should be in Word file format, and the corrected parts should be highlighted in different colors according to different referee requests. Explanation notes should be added to the corrected parts, stating which referee's opinions were followed in the revision and the reasons for the editing decisions. The author's identity should not be disclosed in the explanation notes.

*The page size should be A4. There should be a 3 cm space from the top, 2.5 cm from the bottom, 3 cm from the left, and 3 cm from the right. The text should be written as justified with single spacing, and there should be a space between paragraphs. The text should be written in Arial font, 11 points. The preferred text length for articles, including references, is a maximum of 10,000 words.

*References should be provided in accordance with the APA system.

Article Title:

The title should reflect the content of the text, should not exceed 70-80 characters, and should avoid unnecessary lengthening. The title should be written in Arial font, 14 points, and bold. Only the first letter of the words in the title should be capitalized. The titles of the article in both Turkish and English should be centered, while the other subtitles should be aligned to the left of the page.

Author Names:

Starting with the first author, the initials of the author names and their full last names should be written in uppercase letters, 12 points, without using bold characters. The detailed institution information of the authors (faculty, department, city, and country information) should be written using the "Add Footnote" option from the "References" tab in Word. Bold characters should not be used in footnotes, and they should be written in 8 points. If the institutions of the authors are the same, the footnote add option should be used for the first author, and the superscript button should be used for the next authors. The author who uploads the article to the DergiPark system (corresponding author) should be indicated with an asterisk (*) and their email address should be written in the footnote.

Abstract and Öz:

The "Abstract" and "Öz" sections should include the objective, method, results, and evaluations of the study. The abstracts should not exceed 300 words. The "Öz" section should be written in Arial font, 11 points, with single spacing, and the title of the summary should be 11 points and bold. There should be a space between the word "Öz" and the text. The English title should come before the "Abstract." This title should also be written in bold characters, 14 points, with the first characters of the words capitalized. For articles written in English, the "Abstract" section should come before the "Öz" section. There should be a line space after all titles and paragraphs.

Keywords:

After the "Abstract" and "Öz" sections, a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 keywords should be provided to classify the topic of the article. The keywords should be sorted according to their importance, written in Arial font, 11 points. Only the words "Anahtar kelimeler" (Keywords in Turkish) and "Keywords" should be bold.

3. Copyrights of the articles accepted for publication in our journal are deemed to be transferred to the journal. Authors are required to sign the copyright transfer form and upload it with their articles.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The recommendations of ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) and COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) International Standards for Editors and Authors are taken into consideration in scientific manuscripts submitted to our journal. Mimarlik ve Yasam is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices.By submitting an article to "Mimarlik ve Yasam", the author(s) agree to comply with the journal’s publication ethics and publication malpractice statement. Any violation of these guidelines may result in the article being rejected or retracted, and other appropriate actions being taken. Papers are reviewed by the editors of the Journal before they are forwarded to the referees.

Duties of Authors:

Reporting standards: Authors must present their research findings in a clear, honest, and complete manner. The article should include sufficient detail and references to support the claims and methodology. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable.

Originality and plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works and, if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, this must be properly cited or quoted.

Data access and retention: Authors should be prepared to provide raw data related to their article for editorial review, and should be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Multiple, redundant, or concurrent publication: Authors should not publish articles describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same articlet to more than one journal concurrently is unethical and unacceptable.

Duties of Editors:

Fair play and editorial independence: Editors evaluate articles for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff will not disclose any information about a submitted article to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Editors and editorial board members will recuse themselves from handling articles in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Duties of Reviewers:

Contribution to editorial decisions: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and, through the editorial communications with the author, may also assist the author in improving the paper.

Promptness: Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in an article or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.

Confidentiality: Any articles received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others.

Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Price Policy

The Journal of Architecture and Life does not charge any fee from the submission of articles to their publication.

Prof. Dr. Ali Uzay Peker, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Mimarlık Tarihi Lisansüstü Programı'nda Profesör olarak çalışmaktadır. Selçuklu ve Osmanlı Mimarisi ile ortaçağ kozmolojisi üzerine dersler vermektedir. Çok sayıda ulusal ve uluslararası dergide yayınlanmış makaleleri ve editörlüğünü yaptığı kitapları bulunan bir sanat ve mimarlık tarihçisidir. Türkiye'de ortaçağ mimarisinde sembolizm üzerine yaptığı araştırmalarla İslâmî dönemde, ortaçağ Anadolu'sundaki mimari sembollerin anlamlarını ortaya koymuştur. Ayrıca İstanbul'daki Nur-u Osmaniye gibi on sekizinci yüzyıl yapılarını inceleyerek yayımlamıştır. Zigetvar Sultan Süleyman Türbesi arkeolojik kazısında koordinatör olarak görev yapmıştır. İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi'nden Sanat Tarihi alanında doktora, Boğaziçi Üniversitesi'nden Tarih alanında yüksek lisans ve İstanbul Üniversitesi'nden sanat tarihi alanında lisans derecesi almıştır. Ali Uzay Peker, Türk Tarih Kurumu Bilim Kurulu üyesi, çeşitli akademik dergilerde bilim ve yayın kurulu üyesi, deneyimli bir eğitimci, yönetici ve proje koordinatörü, Marie Curie proje hakemi ve Bologna uzmanıdır.

Dr. Gür is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, GSAS (PhD-1978); He is a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship (1972–77) and a DAAD Fellowship (2002; 2008). With the contribution of DAAD, she has examined onsite and published German Modern Architecture and Post-Modern Architecture. She served at KTU between 1971 and 2009 and became a professor in 1989. During this period, in addition to project courses at the undergraduate level, she gave lectures on Modern Architecture, Post-modern Architecture, and New Developments in Architecture. In the post-graduate program, she offered various courses, such as Architectural Theories and Concepts, Research Methods and Techniques, and Housing Problems, every semester. She is currently a faculty member of Istanbul Beykent University.
Dr. Gür is an active member of international organizations such as CICA (International Committee of Architectural Critics) and WA (World Architecture). Periodic member of IAPS, DRS, CIB W84, IAHS, and similar international organizations, honorary member of BTI (Bund Türkischer Ingenieure und Akademiker e. V) and SEA (The Sustainable Environment Association). Space Studies of Planning and Architecture (https://spacestudies.co.uk/)'ın danışma kurulu üyesi, Editor of NearArchitecture (TRNC), FSM Mimarlık journal, and; She is the science editor of İstanbul Beykent University and Anadolu University Scientific Studies Journals, the referee of SRE, e-Books, Child Indicators Research, JADE, JAAP, MEGARON, A/Z, Gazi, KARAM, Uludağ, Trakya, Design+Theory journals. She writes the monthly Wiew (Görüş) column for the eminent YAPI journal. Prof. Dr. Deniz HASIRCI; IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS-TURKEY: Reading, İngiltere'de doğmuştur. Bilkent Üniversitesi İçmimarlık ve Çevre Tasarımı Bölümünü 1997’de bitirmiştir. Mezuniyet sonrası Intema-Ankara Mağaza ve çeşitli tasarım ve mimarlık ofislerinde çalışmış, 2000’de yüksek lisans, 2005’te yine Bilkent Üniversitesi’nde doktora derecesini almıştır. 2001-2002’de Fulbright bursiyeri olarak North Carolina State University, Community Design programında, “okul tasarımı, katılımcı tasarım ve yaratıcılık” konusunun tanınan isimlerinden Prof. Henry Sanoff ile çalışmıştır. Journal of Interior Design, Journal of Design History, Co-Design, The Journal of Creative Behavior, Creativity Research Journal, Journal of Academic Librarianship, METU Journal, Children, Youth, and Environments gibi dergilerde akademik yayın yapmıştır. KTÜ Mühendislik-Mimarlık Fakültesi, Mimarlık Bölümü’nde 1989 yılında lisans eğitimini tamamlamış, KTÜ Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Mimarlık Anabilim Dalı’ndan "Türkiye briketlerinin ısıl davranışları" başlıklı tezi ile 1994 yılında yüksek lisans ve "Yapıların projeleri üzerinden yangın güvenlik analizinin bilgisayar modeli ve programı" başlıklı tezi ile 1999 yılında doktora derecelerini almıştır. 1995-2000 yılları arasında KTÜ Mimarlık Bölümü’nde araştırma görevlisi, 2001-2002 yılları arasında KTÜ İçmimarlık Bölümü’nde öğretim görevlisi, 2003-2008 yılları arasında KTÜ Mimarlık Bölümü’nde Yardımcı Doçent ve 2009-2011 yılları arasında Doçent olarak görev yapmıştır. 2003-2004 yıllarında University of New South Wales-The Faculty of Building Environment-Sydney’de misafir öğretim üyesi olarak araştırmalarını sürdürmüştür. 2008-2011 tarihleri arasında KTÜ Yapı Bilgisi Anabilim Dalı Başkanlığı ve 2009 yılında KTÜ Mimarlık Bölüm Başkan Yardımcılığı görevlerini yürütmüştür. Eylül 2010-Şubat 2011 tarihleri arasında Farabi Değişim Programı ile Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi Mühendislik-Mimarlık Fakültesi, Mimarlık Bölümü’nde öğretim üyesi olarak görev yapmıştır. Kasım 2011 tarihinden itibaren Gazi Üniversitesi Mimarlık Fakültesi Mimarlık Bölümü’nde Doçent olarak göreve başlamış, Ocak 2015 tarihinde ise Profesör unvanını almıştır. Aynı zamanda 2011-2016 yılları arasında Gazi Üniversitesi İçmimarlık Bölüm Başkanlığı ve 2017-2020 yılları arasında Senato Üyeliği görevlerini yürütmüştür. Akademik görevlerinin yanı sıra Şubat 2024 tarihinden itibaren TMMOB Mimarlar Odası Ankara Şubesi 2. Başkanı olarak görev yapmaktadır. Yapı sektöründe yer alan firmalar, dernekler, vakıflar ve Bakanlıklar ile işbirliği çerçevesinde çok sayıda mesleki eğitimler vermiş, çalıştaylarda görev almış ve yarışma jürilerine katkılar sunmuştur. Çalışma alanları olan Mimari Tasarım ve Yapı Fiziği kapsamında yapılarda yangın güvenliği, enerji etkin yapı tasarımı, sürdürülebilir mimarlık, adli mimarlık konularında ulusal ve uluslararası makaleleri, araştırma projeleri, kitapları, bildirileri bulunmaktadır.

Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü’nde lisans eğitimini, Mimarlık Tarihi alanında yüksek lisans eğitimini; SUNY Binghamton Üniversitesi’nde Mimarlık ve Sanat Tarihi alanında doktora eğitimini tamamladı. Halen Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü’nde öğretim üyesi olarak görev yapmakta, lisans ve lisansüstü düzeyde mimarlık tarihi dersleri vermektedir. Araştırma konularının odağını oluşturan mimarlık tarihyazımı, on dokuzuncu ve yirminci yüzyıl mimarlığı, geç Osmanlı ve Cumhuriyet dönemi mimarlığı ile Ankara’nın mimarlık tarihi alanlarında uluslararası ve ulusal yayınları ve proje çalışmaları bulunmaktadır. Üniversitede yürüttüğü idari görevlerin yanı sıra meslek kuruluşlarının ilgili komite ve kurullarında da çalışan Prof. Dr. Altan, halen docomomo_türkiye’nin Yürütme Kurulu üyesi ve Ankara temsilcisidir.
