SDU İFADE aims to provide an international academic platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the field of communication to share the latest developments, theoretical discussions, and innovative practices.

The journal promotes the dissemination of research covering both theoretical and applied aspects of communication. SDU İFADE supports studies across the broad spectrum of the discipline, from strategic communication to digital media, public relations, journalism, and advertising.

SDU İFADE publishes original research in all subfields of communication, including theoretical, experimental, methodological, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method studies. The journal emphasizes innovation, digitalization, ethics, social impact, and sustainability to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application.

The journal particularly welcomes studies focusing on the following core areas:

Public Relations

Journalism

New Media

Visual Communication Design

Radio, Cinema, and Television


In addition, the journal accepts contributions addressing emerging topics and interdisciplinary research in the field.

Through this scope, SDU İFADE fosters knowledge production, academic interaction, and innovative thinking within the global communication community, contributing to the development of contemporary, ethical, and sustainable communication practices.

Submission Rules

1. Articles submitted to SDU İFADE for publication are first analysed by the editor of the journal in terms of objective, subject, content and spelling rules, and their suitability is evaluated. Articles found suitable by the editor are sent to two referees who are recognised in their field for scientific evaluation, with the names of the authors withheld. Blind referee policy is applied in this process. If both referee reports are positive, the article is published in the journal. If one of the referee reports is positive and the other is negative, the manuscript is sent to a third referee. Authors are obliged to take into account the criticism, suggestions and correction requests of the referees. The final decision regarding the publication of the articles in the journal belongs to the editorial board.

2. Articles must be original works that have not been published elsewhere. Apart from these, the journal also accepts submissions such as book reviews, proceedings, translations, etc. Papers submitted to the journal can be in Turkish or English.

3. For the proceedings sent to the journal, it should be specified at which conference, where and when the paper was presented.

4. For translated texts to be sent to the journal, permission must be obtained from the editor of the journal in which the article is published and the original text must be sent to the journal together with the translation.

5. Detailed writing rules for the papers to be submitted to the journal are included in the journal writing template. Submitted texts should be edited according to the journal writing template.

6. Cover page and copyright agreement form must be filled in for all submissions to the journal.

7. Author information should not be included in the article files sent for review.

8. Articles should be prepared using Microsoft Word software.

9. It is required to follow the order of title, abstract, keywords, introduction, main text (method-findings, if any), discussion and conclusion.

10. Articles submitted to the journal should not exceed 8000 words including footnotes and bibliography.

11. The abstract should not exceed 200 words.

12. All articles in the text; Times New Roman 11 font size, justified, 1 line spacing should be used.

13. The main title and subheadings of the article should be bold and the first letter of the words should be capitalised.

14. Quotations exceeding 40 words should be written one centimetre inside, as a block, single-spaced and in 11 pt.

15. The authors are responsible for the copyrights of tables, figures, photographs, illustrations and long quotations published elsewhere.

16. In accordance with the co-operation between DergiPark and intihal.net, a similarity report is mandatory for article submissions. Authors will be informed at the article submission steps, a similarity report will be prepared at the file upload step and the result will be notified to the author by e-mail. When the result of the report is announced, the author will be able to complete the submission process. In order for the studies to be evaluated, the plagiarism report must be 20% or less. The rate of utilisation of the same study should be maximum 3%. Studies with a similarity rate above these rates will be rejected during the preliminary evaluation process.

17. APA 7.0 version citation method is used within the scope of the journal.

18. Articles that do not comply with the above-mentioned rules are accepted to the evaluation process only after the necessary arrangements are made.


Guidelines for Citations and References

Citing References in the Text
All references should be given in parentheses in the main text with the author's name, year of publication and page numbers. If the study is in Turkish, the page number should be given as in the examples s. 5, s. 24, do not use p. 5, p. 24.

- Quotations longer than 40 words in the text should be given as indented paragraphs without using quotation marks.

- Double quotation marks should be used for direct quotations not exceeding 40 words in the text.

- When referencing, if the author's name is not mentioned in the text, the author's surname and date of publication should be indicated in parentheses: (Turner, 2015).

- If the author's name is not mentioned in the text and a specific page is in question: (Jay, 2005, p. 161) (Aydın, 2023, p. 14).

- If there are non-consecutive pages in the text: (Kejanlıoğlu, 2005: pp. 20-8, 65-9).

- In sources with two authors, both authors' surnames should be used: (Herman & Chomsky, 2012).

- If there are more than three authors, it should be written as ‘et al.’ (Lee et al., 2008).

- If more than one work of the same author published in the same year is used, letters such as a, b, c should be added to the year of publication: (Hall, 1998a), (Hall, 1998b).

- If more than one source is consulted on the same subject, the sources should be separated from each other with semicolons: (Jay, 2005, p. 149 Therborn, 2015, p. 21).

- In the references list, only the references cited in the text should be included. These references should be listed alphabetically. If more than one work of an author is to be included in the list, the publication date should be ordered from past to present.

Citing in the Bibliography

The bibliography must be created in alphabetical order according to the surname of the first authors of the works according to APA 7.0 rules.

1. Publisher’s Responsibilities

SDU İFADE, established in 2018 and published by Süleyman Demirel University, is a non-profit academic journal. The journal operates under an open access policy, supporting the free dissemination of scientific knowledge, and adheres to the ethical standards set by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

The Publisher ensures that:

Each submitted manuscript is independently reviewed by at least two experts in the field through a double-blind peer review process.

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final publication decision based on reviewers’ comments and authors’ revisions.

All accepted articles are published under open access without any submission or publication fees.

Any detected ethical breaches, plagiarism, or data manipulation are addressed through retraction, correction, or withdrawal, following COPE flowcharts.

The journal complies with the Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive (YÖK, Turkey).

2. Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors submitting to SDU İFADE must:

Confirm that their submission is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

Ensure that the research complies with national and international ethical standards.

Disclose all conflicts of interest and funding sources.

Obtain necessary permissions for third-party content and keep records of consent.

Identify all authors who have significantly contributed to the research.

Ensure the manuscript is free of plagiarism (all submissions are screened using intihal.net).

Include an acknowledgements section when appropriate.

Comply with data sharing and availability statements to ensure reproducibility.

Follow all author guidelines available on the journal’s website.

3. Reviewers’ Responsibilities


Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the scientific quality of SDU İFADE and are expected to:

Review only manuscripts within their area of expertise.

Conduct reviews objectively, confidentially, and constructively.

Complete reviews within the specified timeframe.

Decline a review in case of conflict of interest or insufficient expertise.

Report any suspected ethical or research misconduct to the Editor.

Provide courteous, evidence-based, and improvement-oriented feedback.

4. Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors act in accordance with the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors and ensure that:

Editorial decisions are independent, fair, and based solely on scientific merit.

Conflicts of interest are declared and managed transparently.

Complaints, appeals, and allegations of misconduct are handled following COPE procedures.

Manuscripts are assessed for originality, quality, and relevance without discrimination.

Confidentiality of all submissions is maintained.

Corrections or retractions are issued when necessary to uphold the integrity of the scientific record.

5. Data Availability and Transparency


Authors are encouraged to make research data available through institutional or public repositories, or upon reasonable request.

6. Plagiarism Policy

All manuscripts submitted to SDU İFADE are screened for plagiarism using intihal.net.

Manuscripts with more than 20% similarity (excluding references) are automatically returned to the author for revision.

Repeated or intentional plagiarism results in rejection and reporting to the author’s institution, in accordance with COPE and YÖK guidelines.

Authors are fully responsible for the originality and integrity of their work.

7. Complaint and Appeal Policy

SDU İFADE provides a fair, transparent, and structured mechanism for handling complaints and appeals regarding editorial decisions or ethical concerns:

Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Editor-in-Chief within 30 days of the decision.

Complaints or ethical concerns are reviewed according to COPE flowcharts and resolved within a reasonable timeframe.

The final decision rests with the Editorial Board, and outcomes are communicated in writing to the appellant.

8. Correction and Retraction Policy


In cases of proven plagiarism, data fabrication, or other forms of misconduct, SDU İFADE follows COPE Retraction Guidelines.
Corrections, retractions, or withdrawal notices are permanently linked to the original article in both the online archive and PDF version to ensure the integrity of the scientific record.

9. Publication Ethics Oversight


All ethical cases are managed according to COPE flowcharts and the Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive (YÖK).
All stakeholders — authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher — are expected to maintain the highest standards of publication ethics.

1978 İstanbul doğumlu Prof. Dr. Deniz Yengin, İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi Ekonomi Bölümü’nden lisans mezunu olmuştur. Yüksek Lisans eğitimini İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü İletişim Tasarımı Programında tamamlamıştır. Doktora eğitimini ise “Dijital Oyunlarda Şiddet Kavramı: Yeni Şiddet” başlıklı doktora teziyle Marmara Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Bilişim Dalından alarak tamamlamıştır. Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Yeni Medya ve İletişim Bölümü’nde Öğretim Üyesi olan Yengin; Araştırma Yöntemleri, Gündem Kuramı, Bilişim Toplumu, Gözetim Toplumu, Teknolojik Determinizm, Dokunmatik Toplum, Dijitalleşme, Etkileşimlilik, Yeni Medya, Dijital Oyunlar, Yapay Zeka ve İletişim sürecinde medya üzerine bilimsel araştırmalar ve çalışmalar yapmaktadır. 2020-2022 yılları arasında İstanbul Aydın Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Dekanı olarak görev yürütmüş olan Prof.Dr. Deniz Yengin, Üniversite bünyesinde kurulan VRlab (Sanal Gerçeklik Laboratuvarı)’da gözlem ve deneye dayalı nicel ve nitel araştırmalar gerçekleştirmiştir. Yengin; Şubat 2022 tarihinden itibaren Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Yeni Medya ve İletişim Bölümünde bölüm başkanı olarak görev yapmaktadır. Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü Yeni Medya ve İletişim Anabilim Dalında açılan Yeni Medya ve İletişim Yüksek Lisans Programında uygulamalı ve kuramsal dersler vermektedir. Yengin’in “Yeni Medya, Kuram ve Yaklaşımlar”, “Yeni Medya ve Dokunmatik Toplum”, “Dijital Oyun ve Şiddet”, “Sosyal Medya Araştırmaları”, “İletişim Çalışmalarında Araştırma Yöntemleri ve Uygulamaları”, “Sanal Dünyada Yeni Şiddet”, “Sanal Gerçeklik-VR”, “Yeni Medya Kuramları 101” ve “Sanal Gerçekliğin Tetiklediği Semptomlar” isimli kitapları bulunmaktadır. Yeni Medya kavramı konusunda çalışmalar gerçekleştiren Yengin, gelecekte bizi bekleyen olumlu ve olumsuz toplumsal pratikleri de incelemekte ve önlemler konusunda bilimsel çalışmalar yapmaktadır. YÖK tarafından yetkilendirilmiş olan İLEDAK (İletişim Eğitimi Değerlendirme Akreditasyon Kurulu) değerlendiricisi ve Yönetim Kurulu üyesidir. Uygulamalı ve kuramsal dersler veren Yengin, Turkish Online Journal of Design Art and Communication dergisinin editörü ve AI.Labs Bilişim Yazılım ve Yönetim Danışmanlığı Hizmetleri şirketinin kurucu ortağıdır.

1967 Fethiye doğumlu olan Gülseren Şendur Atabek, Akdeniz Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi, Radyo, Televizyon ve Sinema Bölümü’nde profesördür. Akademik yaşamına araştırma görevlisi olarak 1994 yılında Gazi Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi’nde başlamıştır. Lisans derecesini Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi’nde, yüksek lisans ve doktora derecelerini ise Ankara Üniversitesi’nde alan Şendur Atabek’in doçentlik derecesi iletişim bilimleri alanındadır. Medya Metinlerini Çözümlemek (2007) ve Türk Romanında Gazeteciler (2008) adlı kitapların yazarı olan Şendur Atabek’in ayrıca, temel ilgi alanı olan medya tarihi, medya analizi ve görsel iletişim konularında çeşitli makale ve çevirileri bulunmaktadır.
