Sosyal Bilimlerde Bir Yöntem Arayışı Olarak Post-pozitivizm

Abstract

Doğanın yasaları gibi toplumun da yasalarının olduğunu ve sosyal gerçekliğe ulaşmanın bu yasaların keşfedilmesiyle mümkün olduğunu varsayan pozitivizm, on dokuzuncu yüzyıldan yirminci yüzyılın ortalarına kadar sosyal bilimler alanında hakim paradigma olarak kabul edildi. Ancak yirminci yüzyılın başlarından itibaren hem pozitivizme yöneltilen radikal eleştirilere yanıt vermeye çalışan neo-pozitivistler hem de pozitivizmi ontolojik ve epistemolojik bağlamlarda tartışmaya açan felsefecilerin sosyal bilimler üzerindeki etkileri, zamanla pozitivizmin hâkimiyetini kaybetmesini beraberinde getirmiştir. Sosyal bilim çevrelerinde pozitivist paradigmaya yönelik eleştirilerin yoğunluk kazanmasıyla birlikte post-pozitivizm, inşacılık veya yeniden inşacılık ve yorumsamacılık gibi yaklaşımlara olan ilgi de zamanla artış göstermiştir. Bu çalışma, bu yaklaşımlardan biri olan post-pozitivizme odaklanmaktadır. Çalışmada öncelikle sosyal bilimlerde metodolojik bir arayış olarak post-pozitivist yaklaşımın önermeleri ve pozitivist paradigma ile arasındaki temel ayrımlar ele alınmaktadır. Ayrıca bu çalışmada post-pozitivizmin ortaya çıkışını hazırlayan epistemik tartışmalara yer verilmekte ve eleştirel gerçekçilik yaklaşımının post-pozitivist düşüncenin yaslandığı felsefi bir zemin olduğu iddiası gerekçelendirilmeye çalışılmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra post-pozitivist metodolojinin ilkelerinden hareketle, post-pozitivist paradigmanın bilimsel gerçekliğe ulaşmada kullandığı araştırma yöntemlerine ve tekniklerine de ayrıca değinilmektedir.

Post-positivism as a Search for a Method in Social Sciences

Abstract

Positivism, which assumes that there are laws of society like the laws of nature and that access to social reality is possible through the discovery of these laws, was accepted as the dominant paradigm in the field of social sciences from the nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. However, since the beginning of the 20th century, the influence of both neo-positivists who tried to respond to the radical criticisms against positivism and philosophers who discussed positivism in ontological and epistemological contexts on social sciences brought about the loss of positivism's dominance over time. With the intensifying criticism of the positivist paradigm in social science circles, interest in approaches such as post-positivism, constructionism or reconstructionism and interpretivism has also increased in time. This study focuses on one of these approaches, namely post-positivism. The study first discusses the propositions of the post-positivist approach as a methodological quest in social sciences and the main distinctions it bears with the positivist paradigm. In addition, this study includes the epistemic debates that prepared the emergence of post-positivism and tries to justify the claim that the critical realist approach is a philosophical ground on which post-positivist thought rests. In addition, based on the principles of post-positivist methodology, the research methods and techniques used by the post-positivist paradigm in reaching scientific reality are mentioned.
