“PERIPHRASIS” PROBLEMS IN THE TRANSLATIONS FROM GERMAN LITERATURE INTO TURKISH AND PERCEPTION OF THESE TEXTS BY THE STUDENTS OF PHILOLOGY
Abstract
In literary translation process, particularly in metaphoric structures, the inevitability of “indirect” translation may be claimed as a thesis. The in/equivalency of the translation is directly related with this act. In Tanzimat reform era, the quantity of the translations from western literatures into Turkish has increased but the translators were not concerned about the quality. The translators have recreated the text indirectly by perceiving the sense of the author by an emphatic way in the translations from western literatures. But exaggerative comment generally distracts the understandability of the text. An example of this can be clearly seen in the translations from German Literature into Turkish.
