Profesör Keith C. Barton, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde;
Indiana Üniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesi, Müfredat ve Öğretim Bölümü, Sosyal
Bilgiler ve Müfredat Çalışmaları Programında çalışmaktadır. Çalışmaları
öğrencileri sivil hayata hazırlamak ve özellikle de tarih ve sosyal bilgilerin
demokratik katılımdaki rolü üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Öğrencilerin tarihsel
gündem, tarihsel önem ve milli kimlik gibi konuları anlamaları ve insan hakları
üzerine çalışmaları bulunmaktadır. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, Kuzey İrlanda,
Şili, Singapur, Yeni Zelanda, Makedonya, Kolombiya ve diğer ülkelerde
öğretmenlerle ve öğrencilerle çalışmalar yapmıştır.
Öğrencilerle
yaptığı araştırmalara ilaveten teorik ve özellikle de örnek öğretmenlerin
portreleri ile uygulamalı dersler de vermektedir. Indiana üniversitesinde bir
profesör olarak öğretmen adaylarını tarih ve sosyal bilgiler öğretimine
hazırlamanın yanında doktora öğrencilerine müfredat çalışmaları, sosyal
bilgiler ve tarih eğitimi konularında da danışmanlık yapmaktadır.
Keith C. Barton is a professor at Indiana University, School of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Programs of Social Studies and Curriculum Studies. His work focuses on preparing students for civic life, particularly the role of history and social studies in democratic participation. His research examines students’ understanding of topics such as historical agency, historical significance, national identity, and human rights, and he has worked with teachers and students in the United States, Northern Ireland, Singapore, New Zealand, Chile, Macedonia, Colombia, and other countries.
In addition to research with students, his work includes curriculum theory and practical classroom applications, especially through portraits of exemplary teachers. As a professor at Indiana University, he prepares candidates to teach history and social studies, as well as guiding doctoral students in the areas of curriculum studies, social studies, and history education.
