The Examination of Teachers’ Behaviours on Creative Thinking Supportiveness
Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate contributions of teachers’ behaviors on students’ creative thinking abilities. The population of study consist of mathematics, physic, chemistry and biology teachers employed in Anatolian high school, science high school, social science high school, sport high school and fine arts high school. The sample of study is 350 teachers who was chosen by stratified sampling and cluster sampling method. As data collection tools, Contributions of Teachers’ Behaviors on Creative Thinking Abilities questionnaire as developed by Yenilmez & Yolcu (2007). The questionnaire has 17 items which is 4 point Likert scale. Data was collected via online forms. Honesty, sincerity, and volunteerism were based for participation. Independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA was conduct via SPSS for data analysis. Due to the fact that total score of the questionnaire could be calculated, validity study was conducted. As a result of validity study, it was observed that the scale had 2 factors and 17 items. As a result of research, it has been observed that teachers contributes medium and high level on creative thinking abilities. It has been also identified that gender, experience, age, subject matter, the high school type they employed, school which was graduated, education level and attend to in-service training were not significant factors in teachers’ creativity fostering behaviors. The results were discussed with literature.
