The Effect of Reading Comprehension Strategy Instruction On Reading Comprehension Achievement Of 7th Grade Students’

Öz

In this research, the effect of reading comprehension strategies such as predicting, questioning, summarizing, clarification, visualising, making connections, and what I know, what I want to know, what I learned (K-W-L) strategies on students’ reading comprehension achievement were investigated. The research was held in Hızır Reis Secondary School. Pre-test post-test control group design was used accordingly; in total of 69 students. The class 7-B was the experiment (n=36), class 7-C (n=33) was the control group. For the assessment of comprehension achievement, the scale “Comprehension Scale For Expository Tests” which was developed by Temizkan (2007), was applied at the beginning and at the end of an 8 weeks process. In order to analyze data t- test and covariance analysis (ANCOVA) were applied. The result of the study showed that, comprehension strategy instruction has no effect on students’ reading comprehension achievement. Another finding of the study is that the comprehension strategy instruction does not show meaningful differenciation on students’ reading comprehension achievement due to gender

İlköğretim 7. Sınıf Öğrencilerine Okuduğunu Anlama Stratejilerinin Öğretiminin Okuduğunu Anlama Başarısı Üzerine Etkisi

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, okuduğunu anlama stratejilerinden; tahmin etme, soru sorma, özet çıkarma, netleştirme, zihinde canlandırma, bağ kurma ve ne biliyorum-ne öğrenmek istiyorum-ne öğrendim (K-W-L) stratejilerinin okuduğunu anlama başarısı üzerindeki etkisini belirlemektir. Ön test-son test kontrollü desen kullanılarak yapılan çalışma, Hızır Reis İlköğretim Okulu’nda 7-B ve 7-C şubelerinde yürütülmüş olup; 7-B sınıfı (n=36) deney, 7-C sınıfı (n=33) kontrol grubu olmak üzere, toplam 69 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Öğrencilerin anlama başarısının tespitinde ön test ve son test olarak, Temizkan (2007) tarafından geliştirilen “Bilgilendirici Metinler Okuduğunu Anlama Ölçeği” 8 haftalık sürecin basında ve sonunda uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen verilere t testi ve kovaryans analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları, okuduğunu anlama stratejileri öğretiminin yedinci sınıf öğrencilerinin okuduğunu anlama başarısında anlamlı bir etkisi olmadığını ortaya koymuştur. Araştırmanın bir diğer bulgusu ise okuduğunu anlama stratejileri öğretiminin yedinci sınıf öğrencilerinin okuduğunu anlama başarısında cinsiyet açısından anlamlı bir farklılık yaratmadığı yönündedir.
