The Effect of Ecological Footprint Education for Sustainable Life on Attitudes Towards Environmental Problems and Behavior Levels

Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the ecological footprint education for sustainable life on attitudes towards environmental problems and behaviors levels in the 8th grade science and technology class This research was carried out in the Science and Technology Lecture of the 8th class students of a secondary school which is in Ankara Kazan district, during 2013-2014 academic years. In this study, pre test–post test control group semi experimental design containing experimental and control groups was used. In the research, “Attitude Scale towards Environmental Problems” and “Behaviors Scale towards Environmental Problems” being pre-test and post-test for both groups were used as data collection tools. Finally, the applications of ecological footprint education towards sustainable life were seemed to be effective on students to change their attitude and behaviors against the environmental problems.

Sürdürülebilir Yaşama Yönelik Ekolojik Ayak İzi Eğitiminin Çevre Sorunlarına Yönelik Tutum ve Davranış Düzeyine Etkisi

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, 8. sınıf öğrencilerine Fen ve Teknoloji dersinde uygulanacak sürdürülebilir yaşama yönelik ekolojik ayak izi eğitiminin, öğrencilerin çevre sorunlarına yönelik tutum ve davranış düzeylerine etkisini araştırmaktır. Araştırma 2013-2014 eğitim-öğretim yılında Ankara ili Kazan ilçesindeki bir ortaokulun 8. sınıf şubelerinin Fen ve Teknoloji dersinde yürütülmüştür. Bu çalışmada deney ve kontrol gruplarının yer aldığı ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desenden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, her iki grup için ön test ve son test olmak üzere “Çevre Sorunlarına Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği” ve “Çevre Sorunlarına Yönelik Davranış Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, sürdürülebilir yaşama yönelik verilen ekolojik ayak izi eğitimi uygulamalarının öğrencilerin çevre sorunlarına yönelik tutum ve davranışlarının değiştirilmesinde etkili olduğu görülmüştür.
