An Evaluation of the Assessment Questions in the Textbook and Objectives of the 8th Grade Curriculum Citizenship and Democracy Education Course According to SOLO Taxonomy

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the objectives specified in the 8th grade curriculum of the course Citizenship and Democracy Education Curriculum, which was published in 2010 and revised in 2011, and the assessment questions in the textbook accepted in 2011 and published 2012 by the Ministry of Education according to the levels of the SOLO Taxonomy. The analysis of the objectives and the assessment questions were carried out with reference to SOLO taxonomy of the Unistructural, Multistructural, Relational and Extended Abstract structure level. In this study, document analysis techniques of qualitative research methods were applied. According to research findings; of the 12 objectives, 8 (66.67%) corresponds to the level of Multistructural, 2 (16.66%) corresponds to the level of relational and other 2 (16.67%) corresponds to the level of extended abstract. It has been determined that there was no objectives corresponds to level of unistructural. By analyzing the findings related to the analysis of the assessment questions, it was determined that 27 of them (45.45%) were unistructural, 13 of them (23.64%) multistructural and 15 of them (27.27%) were at the level of relational structure. It was also found that there wasn’t any assessment questions for the level of extended abstract. In line with the findings obtained in this study, recommendations for implications and further researches are made.
