Resource Based Theory and Export Performance: An Application on Textile Firms by Data Envelopment Analysis

Öz

Using resource-based view (RBV) of the firm as a theoretical backround; and DEA as an analytical tool, export performance of the textile firms has been evaluated. Balance sheet and income statement data were collected from firms which exports continously from 2002 to 2008 and exports over sector average in DB–17 manufacture of textile and DB - 18 manufactur of wearing apparel, dressing and dyeing of fur which placed Central Bank of Turkey’ (CBRT ) company accounts databese’s manufacturing sectors. Two stage DEA was used for this research. Used inputs are total assets, number of employees and paid-up capital, outputs are net profit and export profitability. Since export oriented firms have been chosen in this study, it is assumed that net profit is export performance indicator. Although DEA has been used as many times for evaluating performance of firms, it has not been used mainly for evaluating export performance firm. Thus,
this study is very important in terms of using DEA as an analytical performance measurement tool in export performance.

Kaynak Temelli Strateji ve İhracat Perfonmansı: Tekstil İşletmeleri Üzerinde Veri Zarflama Analizi İle Bir Uygulama

Öz

Çalışmada, Kaynak Temelli Strateji temel alınarak ve Veri Zarflama Analizi analitik bir araç olarak kullanılarak tekstil firmalarının ihracat performansları değerlendirilmiştir. Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası (TCMB) Sektör Bilançoları veri tabanında imalat sektöründe DB – 17’de bulunan firmalar ile DB – 18’de bulunan firmalardan 2002 yılından bu yana sürekli ihracat yapan ve sektör ortalaması üzerinde yurt dışı satışları olan firmaların bilanço ve gelir tablosu verileri alınarak KTS çerçevesinde VZA ile analiz yapılmıştır. İki aşamalı VZA’da aktif toplamı, çalışan sayısı ve ödenmiş sermaye girdi, dönem karı ve ihracat karlılığı ise çıktı olarak kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada ağırlıklı olarak ihracat yapan firmalar seçildiği için dönem karının ihracat performansının göstergesi olduğu varsayılmıştır. VZA işletmelerin performansının ölçümünde çok defa kullanılmış olmakla birlikte, ihracat yapan firmaların performansını ölçmek için daha önce yapılan çalışmalarda çok sınırlı olarak kullanılması nedeniyle çalışmanın literatürde bu konuda da örnek bir çalışma olduğu düşünülmektedir.
