A Bibliometric Analysis on the Use of GeoGebra AR in Mathematics Education

Öz

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of published scientific studies related to the GeoGebra AR augmented reality tool. GeoGebra AR is a relatively new augmented reality tool. Considering the expanding literature on the use of augmented reality in education, it is an augmented reality tool with low awareness but high usability. Although there are few publications in the literature due to its relatively new status as an augmented reality tool, it is a high-potential augmented reality tool, and therefore, this study aims to review the literature related to it. Bibliometric analysis is a statistical analysis method that examines published literature by analyzing bibliometric data such as authors, publications, institutions, journals, countries, citations, and keywords using bibliometric analysis applications. Twenty-one publications obtained from the Web of Science and Scopus databases were examined using the Bibliometrix package in R Studio. T According to the findings, the countries with the highest number of publications in this field are Peru, Italy, South Korea, Israel, Ukraine, Indonesia, and Spain. The journals with the highest number of publications are Ceur Workshop Proceedings, International Journal for Technology in Mathematics, and Journal of Physics Conference. The universities with the most publications are Universitas Syiah Kuala, Univ. Peruana Ciencias Aplicadas, and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. In addition, the conceptual structure related to GeoGebra was revealed and presented visually. The findings of this study reveal the benefits of GeoGebra AR, such as interdisciplinary use, spatial thinking skills, geometry, and learning motivation. The study by Velázquez and Méndez (2021) is the most cited and most influential study in this context, with 34 citations. Bagossi (2023), Kounlaxay (2021), Osypava (2021), Lainufar (2021) and Lainufar (2020), Caridade (2022), and Flores Osorio (2022) are among the academically influential studies in various citation analyses. This bibliometric analysis indicates that research on GeoGebra AR, although still in a developmental stage, has attracted increasing academic interest. The findings show that GeoGebra AR is primarily associated with geometry instruction, spatial thinking skills, and learning motivation, and that it is a tool well suited for interdisciplinary use. The tool demonstrates considerable potential for enhancing visualization and supporting connections between mathematics and real-life contexts in mathematics education. However, the limited number of existing studies highlights the need for further empirical research across different educational levels and diverse learning contexts.
