Öz

Banknotes are among the key elements that reflect a nation's identity and values. The figures depicted on banknotes provide not only citizens but also visiting tourists with valuable insights into the country's history, art, nature, and cultural heritage. While intangible cultural heritage elements are often associated with historical landmarks, prominent figures, or artistic representations, gastronomy is also an integral part of this heritage. Culinary traditions play a crucial role in understanding societies' histories, lifestyles, and values. This study examines the presence of gastronomic elements on banknotes by analyzing the most widely circulated and strongest 16 currencies worldwide. Using a qualitative research approach, the analysis reveals that only the Norwegian Krone features a gastronomic representation. In particular, the depiction of codfish highlights the species' economic and cultural significance for Norway. These findings indicate that food culture is generally overlooked in banknote design, with visual representations of cultural heritage primarily focusing on historical landmarks, political figures, and artistic symbols. However, incorporating gastronomic elements into banknote designs could serve as an effective tool for promoting a country's culinary identity, enhancing cultural awareness, and strengthening its potential, particularly in the field of gastronomic tourism.

Öz

Banknotlar, bir ülkenin kimliğini ve değerlerini yansıtan önemli unsurlar arasında yer alır. Banknotların üzerinde yer alan figürler, yalnızca vatandaşlara değil, aynı zamanda ülkeyi ziyaret eden turistlere de ülkenin tarihi, sanatı, doğası ve kültürel mirası hakkında bilgiler sunar. Özellikle somut olmayan kültürel miras öğeleri genellikle tarihi yapılar, önemli şahsiyetler veya sanatsal öğelerle ilişkilendirilse de, gastronomi de bu mirasın ayrılmaz bir parçasıdır. Yemek kültürü toplumların tarihini, yaşam biçimini ve değerlerini anlamada kritik bir rol oynar. Bu çalışma, dünyada en yaygın kullanılan ve en güçlü 16 para birimini inceleyerek banknotlar üzerinde gastronomik unsurların varlığını araştırmaktadır. Nitel bir araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak yapılan analiz sonucunda, yalnızca Norveç Kronu’nun üzerinde gastronomik bir figüre yer verildiği tespit edilmiştir. Özellikle morina balığına yer verilmesi, bu türün Norveç için ekonomik ve kültürel önemini vurgulamaktadır. Bu sonuç, yemek kültürünün banknot tasarımında genellikle göz ardı edildiğini, kültürel mirasın görsel temsillerinin daha çok tarihi yapılar, siyasi figürler ve sanatsal semboller etrafında şekillendiğini göstermektedir. Oysa gastronomik unsurların banknot tasarımlarına dahil edilmesi, bir ülkenin mutfak kimliğini tanıtmak, kültürel farkındalığı artırmak ve özellikle gastronomi turizmine yönelik potansiyelini güçlendirmek için etkili bir araç olabilir.
