The tourism sector has a structure where people make intense labor and service comes to the forefront directly from employee to customer. The performance and productivity of the hotel employees have significant impact on the profitability, service quality, efficiency and the sustainability of the hotel enterprises. One of the most important factors affecting the efficiency of hotel employees is related to the power sources used by managers who are leaders in hotels and how they reflect these resources to the employees. In this study, it was tried to determine how five power sources used by leaders impacts the efficiency of hotel employees. In this study, the power sources used by the leaders were examined from a conceptual point of view. A literature review was performed on power sources, hotel management and productivity concepts. In order to obtain data, in-dept interviews were conducted with the employees working in 6 different hotel enterprises operating in Balıkesir and Çanakkale provinces and it was tried to examine how the power sources used by the leaders contribute to the productivity of the employees. As a research method, semi-structured interview technique was used According to the findings, it was determined that the rewarding, expertise and charismatic power of the leaders had positive contributions to the productivity of the employees. However, it was seen that even the legal power was accepted as normal, it has negative impact on employees’ satisfaction and service performance when it was abused by the leader. Moreover, the interview results revealed that the use of the coercive power had negative impacts on the employees’ productivity and service quality. Finally, the study findings were discussed in terms of the conceptual and practical contributions.
