Teaching-Learning Process Supported by Out-of-Class Activities in Teacher Education: Reflections on Pre-service Teachers' Anecdotes

The aim of this study is to investigate the views of pre-service teachers on the teaching-learning process supported by out-of-class activities. In line with this general purpose, the anecdotes of pre-service teachers studying in the classroom teaching program about the out-of-class activities carried out in the Character and Value Education course were examined. The research was conducted using qualitative research method. Pre-service classroom teachers who took the Character and Value Education course as an elective course in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year participated in the study. An anecdote form created by the researchers was used to collect data in the study. The research data were analysed through thematic analysis. As a result of the research, findings were reached in the dimensions of general opinions on out-of-class educational activities in character and value education, contributions of out-of-class educational activities and suggestions. Pre-service teachers think that the out-of-class activities conducted within the scope of character and value education course are explanatory, functional, fun, interactive, informative and guiding. Participants expressed the contributions of out-of-class value education activities as gaining pedagogical awareness about value education, gaining personal awareness about value education, and gaining awareness about the role of stakeholders in value education. The pre-service classroom teachers made suggestions for enriching the course and teaching the course regarding out-of-class activities in character and value education. In the context of the results obtained in the research, it is suggested that the teaching-learning process in the Character and Value Education course in primary teacher education should be designed in a way to integrate theory and practice in a balanced way.

Öğretmen Eğitiminde Sınıf Dışı Etkinliklerle Desteklenen Öğretme-Öğrenme Süreci: Öğretmen Adaylarının Anekdotlarına Yansımalar

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının sınıf dışı etkinliklerle desteklenen öğretme-öğrenme sürecine ilişkin görüşlerinin araştırılmasıdır. Bu genel amaç doğrultusunda sınıf öğretmenliği programında öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının Karakter ve Değer Eğitimi dersinde gerçekleştirilen sınıf dışı etkinliklerle ilgili anekdotları incelenmiştir. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmaya 2023-2024 Öğretim Yılı güz döneminde Karakter ve Değer Eğitimi dersini seçmeli ders olarak alan sınıf öğretmeni adayları katılmıştır. Araştırmada verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan anekdot formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri tematik analizi yoluyla analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda karakter ve değer eğitiminde sınıf dışı eğitim etkinlerine ilişkin genel görüşler, sınıf dışı eğitim etkinliklerin katkıları ve öneriler boyutlarında bulgulara ulaşılmıştır. Öğretmen adayları karakter ve değer eğitimi dersi kapsamında yapılan sınıf dışı etkinliklerin açıklayıcı, işlevsel, eğlenceli, etkileşimli, bilgilendirici ve yol gösterici nitelik taşıdığını düşünmektedirler. Katılımcılar, sınıf dışı değer eğitimi etkinliklerinin kendilerine sağladığı katkıları değer eğitimine yönelik pedagojik farkındalık kazanma, değer eğitimine yönelik kişisel farkındalık kazanma ve değer eğitiminde paydaşların rolüne ilişkin farkındalık kazanma biçiminde ifade etmişlerdir. Sınıf öğretmeni adayları karakter ve değer eğitiminde sınıf dışı etkinliklere ilişkin olarak dersi zenginleştirmeye ve dersin işlenmesine yönelik öneriler getirmişlerdir. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlar bağlamında sınıf öğretmenliği eğitiminde Karakter ve Değer Eğitimi dersinde öğretme-öğrenme sürecinin kuram ve uygulamayı dengeli olarak bütünleştirecek biçimde tasarlanması önerilmiştir.
