ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP STUDIES: GLOBAL TRENDS AND THE EVOLUTION OF RESEARCH FIELDS THROUGH A BIBLIOMETRİC ANALYSİS

Öz

Leadership is critical in shaping societies, guiding strategic decision-making processes and increasing organisational effectiveness.
This study evaluates the development of these concepts and identifies current trends by conducting a bibliometric analysis of academic research on leadership and organisational leadership. Leadership has historically been influenced by social, cultural and economic dynamics and has been studied by various disciplines.
Different theories classify leadership styles under approaches such as behavioural, situational, trait-based, charismatic, transformational, transactional and servant leadership. These frameworks emphasise the importance of leaders‘ effective communication and relationship management skills as well as their impact on employees’ job satisfaction and organisational commitment. For example, transformational leadership promotes competitiveness through cultural adaptation in rapidly changing markets, while transactional leadership focuses more on reward and punishment dynamics. Authentic leadership aims to build trust through honesty and commitment to ethical values. In the bibliometric analysis, publications related to the keyword ‘organisational leadership’ between 2014 and 2024 were examined using the Web of Science database and filtered for management, business and behavioural sciences. As a result of the analysis, 1,608 publications, including articles, conference proceedings, editorial materials and book chapters, were identified and the dominance of publications in the field of management was revealed.
The findings suggest that contemporary leadership theory and practice are affected by macro-scale changes such as digital transformation, globalisation and pandemic conditions. The study also highlights the role of leadership styles in enhancing employee satisfaction and engagement. Bibliometric analyses serve as valuable tools for understanding research developments and future directions, identifying gaps in the organisational leadership literature, and suggesting areas for future exploration.

ÖRGÜTSEL LİDERLİK ÇALIŞMALARI: BİBLİYOMETRİK ANALİZ İLE KÜRESEL EĞİLİMLER VE ARAŞTIRMA ALANLARININ GELİŞİMİ

Öz

Liderlik, toplulukların ve kurumların gelişiminde, stratejik karar alma süreçlerinde ve örgütsel etkinliklerin artırılmasında önemli bir işlev üstlenmektedir. Bu çalışma, liderlik ve örgütsel liderlik konularında yapılan akademik araştırmaların bibliyometrik analizi ile liderlik kavramının evrimi ve mevcut eğilimler üzerine kapsamlı bir değerlendirme sunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Liderlik, tarihsel süreç içerisinde sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik dinamiklerle şekillenmiş ve farklı disiplinlerde incelenmiştir. Literatürde, liderlik stilleri davranışsal, durumsal, özellik temelli, karizmatik, transformasyonel, transaksiyonel ve hizmetkar liderlik gibi çeşitli kategorilerde ele alınmaktadır. Bu yaklaşımlar, liderlerin etkili iletişim ve ilişki yönetimi yeteneklerinin yanı sıra, çalışanların iş tatminini ve örgütsel bağlılıklarını artırma konusundaki rollerine de dikkat çekmektedir. Transformasyonel liderlik, özellikle hızla değişen pazar koşullarında kültürel değişimleri benimseyerek örgütlerin rekabetçi kalmasını sağlarken, transaksiyonel liderlik daha çok ödül-ceza ilişkilerine odaklanmaktadır. Otantik liderlik ise dürüstlük ve içsel etik değerlere bağlılık üzerinden çalışanların güvenini kazanmayı hedeflemektedir. Çalışmanın bibliyometrik analizi için, 2014-2024 yılları arasında "örgütsel liderlik" yazar anahtar kelimesiyle yapılan incelemede, yönetim, iş ve davranış bilimleri alanları filtrelendiğinde toplamda 1.608 yayın tespit edilmiştir; bunlar arasında 1.429 makale, 145 bildiri, 7 editör materyali ve 27 kitap bölümü yer almaktadır. Web of Science veri tabanı kullanılarak yapılan bu araştırma, liderlik literatürünün yapısını, eğilimlerini ve en çok atıf alan çalışmaları belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada, en fazla yayının yönetim alanında olduğu tespit edilmiş, bu alandaki akademik eğilimler, anahtar kelimeler ve en etkili yazarlar incelenmiştir. Yapılan analiz sonucunda, liderlik teorilerinin ve uygulamalarının günümüzde dijital dönüşüm ve küreselleşme gibi makro ölçekli değişimlerden etkilendiği belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, çalışanların iş tatmini ve örgütsel bağlılık düzeylerinin artırılmasında liderlik tarzlarının etkisi vurgulanmıştır. Bibliyometrik analizler, belirli bir araştırma alanının gelişimini ve gelecekteki yönelimlerini anlamada önemli bir araç olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, çalışma, örgütsel liderlik literatüründeki araştırma boşluklarının belirlenmesine ve gelecekteki akademik çalışmalara yönelik ipuçları sunmaktadır. Elde edilen bulgular, liderlik alanında yapılan araştırmaların hangi yönlere odaklandığını ve hangi konuların potansiyel taşıdığına dair önemli bilgiler sağlamaktadır.
