EVALUATION OF SELECTIVE COURSE OF SCIENCE APPLICATION ACCORDING TO THE VIEWS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS (5th, 6th and 7th GRADES)

Öz

This purpose of this study is to evaluate selective course of science application according to the views of middle school students (5th, 6th and 7th grades). Sample of the study consists of 666 students from three secondary schools in EskiĢehir, studying at 5th, 6th and 7th grades during 2014-2015 academic years. 259 participants were from 5th grades, 186 from 6th grades and 221 students were form 7th grades. Scientific Attitude Scale, which has been developed by Moore and Foy (1997) and has been adapted to Turkish by DemirbaĢ and Yağbasan (2006), was used for data collection to determine scientific attitude levels. Explanatory factor analysis was used in one-dimensional test of “Scientific Attitude” scale. SPSS 21.0 statistics software was utilized for data analysis. Analysis of the collected data was performed through arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentages, t-test and one-way variance analysis. According to the outcomes of the research, significant differences were observed in attitude towards science scores accordingto gender, class level, school, and education level of the parents whereas the differences according to attending science application course were not significant. Based on the findings of this research, for students to develop positive attitudes towards science, the content of science application course should be restructured and trainings for teachers on this issue should be organized.
