Adaptation Study of CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol (CMSP) To Turkish For 4 and 5 Year Old Children

Öz

In this study, it was aimed to adapt the CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol to Turkish and to conduct validity and reliability studies in this direction. Data for the adaptation study of the CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol were collected from 4 years old and 5 years old children who are attending preschool education  in private kindergartens, independent kindergartens, and kindergartens within the school., Beşiktaş and Şişli districts in Europe; Kadıköy, Maltepe and Kartal districts in Anatolia in İstanbul. 336 children, 168 children were from Anatolian side and 168 children were from European side, were included in this study. Language equivalence, face validity, content validity and criterion validity methods were used in the validity studies of the CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol. In the reliability studies of the CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol, test retest, internal consistency (KR-20) and interobserver reliability methods were used. The content validity index of the adapted tool was calculated as .99. The relationship between CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol and the Test of Gross Motor Development was measured to ensure the criterion validity and a positive correlation was found at .92 level as a result of the analysis of the total scores of the assessment tools. Test-retest reliability study correlation test results on the total scores of motor skills showed a significant positive correlation between test and retest test scores at .94 level. In the context of the internal consistency study, analyzes were performed to determine the reliability values of each skill in the subscales of the assessment tool and the overall internal consistency value of the assessment tool. The overall internal consistency value of the assessment tool was calculated as .77. As a result of the studies, it was determined that CHAMPS Motor Skills Protocol is a valid and reliable assessment tool for measuring the movement skills of Turkish children.
