People's Houses became the centers of culture, art and development of the cities thanks to the 9 branches they included in the period they were founded. People's Houses, which are expected to educate and develop the public, should have some features for the activities to be carried out and should be designed for this purpose. Accordingly, the people's houses represent the Turkish Architecture of the Republican Period as of the period they were built. Since they have an important function in history and witness a certain period, they need to be preserved. In this context, within the scope of this study, the functional change, which is a part of the protection, was examined through People’s Houses. How the new functions adapted to the city and their relations with the surroundings were investigated. The adaptation of the building to the functional change; It has been tried to determine the present-day usage situations and bulk changes of the existing spaces in the building. The first period community centers were opened in 1932, first in 14 provinces, then in 20 additional provinces, with a total of 34 community centers. 12 of 34 community centers have been used with different functions until today and constitute the scope of the article. The method of the study; Archival documents, news sources and scientific researches were scanned and the past and present status information of the community centers were determined to be presented in a comparative table. The extent to which the building can adhere to the spatial organization it contains in the period of its establishment and its volumetric reflections affect the original quality of the building. The new function should be given considering these criteria and the context features of the building. The new functions of Community Centers were discussed and evaluated in this direction. Although its relations with the city vary, it has been determined that the original spatial setup of the building could not be preserved. It is a mistaken approach to subtract from the original value of the structure to provide the programs needed by the given new functions. These applications, which contradict the logic of re-functioning to protect, are examined in detail in the study.
