Thematic content analysis for graduate studies on authentic learning in Turkey

Öz

The aim of this research is to evaluate the general trends of graduate theses in which authentic learning is studied by analyzing them with a holistic approach. In this direction, graduate theses associated with authentic learning were examined through the Turkish National Thesis Center of the Higher Education Institution and thirty-one of these theses were included in the research. The study, in which qualitative research approach was adopted, was carried out by synthesizing the findings detected by thematic content analysis. The findings are that authentic learning is mostly used on the basis of effectiveness in studies, so that it is carried out to examine its effect on related variables; especially skills in quantitative dimension of dependent variables and opinions in particular in qualitative dimension; concentrated in Science Education; method of adopting mixed approaches; sampling is determined by purpose and random sampling; especially qualitative data analysis types are preferred in data analysis; working time is usually eight weeks; brainstorming with the most excursions from teaching techniques, discussion from methods, and scenario-based learning from learning approaches are used more; measurement – evaluation tools, mostly forms, followed by performance evaluations and scales, and then tests; it is the result that the results obtained are largely positive.
