THE ROLE OF SUSTAINABLE LEADERSHIP IN THE GREEN BUSINESS ETHICS–FIRM PERFORMANCE RELATIONSHIP: AN EMPLOYEE PERSPECTIVE

Öz

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among green business ethics, firm performance, and sustainable leadership behaviors, and to understand the role of sustainable leadership behaviors within this relationship. In this context, the study focuses on the alignment of sustainable leadership behaviors with ethical values and their impact on firm performance. A quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected using a cross-sectional survey method. For this purpose, data obtained through questionnaires administered to 289 employees working in firms holding the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard were analyzed using statistical techniques. The findings indicate a significant relationship between green business ethics and firm performance. Moreover, sustainable leadership behaviors were found to have a partial mediating role in this relationship. This study makes an important contribution to understanding the dynamic interplay among green business ethics, firm performance, and sustainable leadership behaviors. This understanding can be used to guide managers and researchers in developing leadership strategies and green organizational culture practices. The absence of prior studies addressing the relationships specified in the research model renders this study both rare and significant, and it is therefore believed to contribute meaningfully to the existing literature.
