RESEARCH ON OCCURRENCE OF MITES IN CHEESE CONSUMED IN NIGDE PROVINCE

Öz

The objective of this study is to examine the prevalence of mites in the cheese of Nigde region and to determine the state of the infestation in the region. The study examines the presence of mites in 226 cheese samples (61 Turkish kashar cheese samples and 165 tulum cheese samples) collected between June-November 2011. The results show that mites were detected in 2 (0.88%) out of 226 cheese samples tested. Eggs, nymph and adult stages of the Acarus siro were seen in the cheese, whereas no larvae stage were found. Monthly prevalence of mites was determined as between 0-2% in the cheeses. A prevalence was only detected in August (2%) and September (1.85%), whereas, in the other months infestation was not found.

 

In conclusion, this study is the first one to identify the prevalence of mites in the cheese of Nigde region. Also, the rate of mites in the cheese examined was established as 0.88%.

NİĞDE YÖRESİNDE TÜKETİME SUNULAN PEYNİRLERDE AKAR VARLIĞININ ARAŞTIRILMASI

Öz

Bu çalışma, Niğde yöresi peynirlerinde akar varlığının ortaya çıkarılması ve bölgenin akar enfestasyonu durumunun saptanması amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla, Haziran-Kasım 2011 tarihleri arasında Niğde yöresinden toplam 226 adet peynir (61 adet kaşar ve 165 adet tulum) toplanmış ve akar varlığı yönünden incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda incelenen 226 adet peynir numunesinin 2 (%0.88)’sinde Acarus siro varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Acarus siro’nun yumurta, nimf ve erişkin dönemlerine rastlanmış olup larva dönemi ise belirlenememiştir. Akarların peynirlerdeki aylık prevalansı %0-2 arasında saptanmıştır. Aylara göre A. siro prevalansı, Ağustos ayında %2, Eylül ayında %1.85 olarak saptanmış buna karşılık çalışma yapılan diğer aylarda enfestasyon tespit edilmemiştir.

 

Sonuç olarak, Niğde yöresi peynirlerinde akar varlığı ilk kez bu çalışma ile belirlenmiş ve incelenen peynirlerde %0.88 oranında akar saptanmıştır.
