Recently in translation studies, the interaction between translation and gender has become more apparent. As the number and quality of studies published at this intersection increase, feminist translation studies has become one of the sub-disciplines under translation studies. However, it was in the 2000s that a gender perspective became available in audiovisual translation, a sub-discipline under translation studies. Audio description is a type of audiovisual translation developed primarily for the blind and visually impaired that allows them to access the visual track of an audiovisual product. Currently, the audio description has gained importance due to the increase in accessible audiovisual product dissemination and use. This study is conducted at the intersection between these two sub-disciplines. The aim of the study is to present a gender perspective regarding the gender of employees, audio description text writers, and audio describers considering the data and feedback from SEBEDER (Association for Audio Description), an NGO established for the production of accessible audiovisuals for the blind. “The voice of the woman audio describers” and “discourse by the woman audio description text writer” are evident parts of the audio description process. When compared with other types of translation, the “woman translator” is an undeniable part of the product -her voice is heard. This provides a platform of research as regards findings about woman’s voice. The following study presents not only statistical information but also data about receivers’ choices and these are interpreted within the framework of feminist audiovisual translation studies.
