Cesaretin Felsefesi: Platon’a Göre Cesaret Erdeminin Önemi

Öz

Bu makalenin amacı cesaret erdeminin Platon’un politika felsefesinde genel olarak kabul edildiğinden daha belirleyici ve merkezi bir role sahip olduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Bu rolün öneminin Platon’un hem hocası Sokrates’in bir filozof olarak yaşamında sergilediği ve hatta hayatına mal olan cesaretinin farklı boyutlarını bir araya getirme çabasından hem de genel olarak, felsefe ile politikanın uzlaşabileceği ideal devlet çözümünün ayrılmaz bir parçası olmasından ileri geldiği iddia edilecektir. Platon’un dönemin politik düşüncesinde kahramanlıkla birlikte düşünülen cesarete oldukça farklı bir felsefi bir anlam ve rol vermeye çalıştığı savunulacaktır. Bu yolda Platon felsefesinde cesaretin aklın (bilgeliğin) arzuları (bedeni, maddi dünyayı ve devleti) yönetebildiği ideal bir düzen inşa etme hedefi açısından neden zorunlu bir işleve sahip olduğu gösterilmeye çalışılacaktır. Bu açıdan, makalenin iddiası, cesaret erdemine dair bu bakış açısının, Platon’un, Sokrates’in kişiliğinde somutlaşan felsefi yaşamı, doğru ve adil bir yaşam olarak sitede inşa etme yönündeki çözüm arayışının farklı boyutlarını anlamaya katkıda bulunabileceğidir.

Philosophy of Courage: The Importance of the Virtue of Courage According to Plato

Abstract

The main goal of this article is to reveal the virtue of courage which plays a significant role in Plato’s political philosophy. It will be argued that the importance of this role stems from both Plato’s effort to bring together the different dimensions of Socrates’ courage, which he exhibited in his life as a philosopher, whicheven cost him his life, and that it is an integral part of the ideal state solution in which philosophy and politics can be reconciled. Plato was trying to give new philosophical meaning and role to the courage. It will be argued that this point of view can serve to understand the different dimensions of Plato’s search for a solution to construct the philosophical life, which brings together wisdom and courage embodied in the personality of Socrates, on the ideal site as a true and just life.
