Cinematographic space as an allegory of the individual’s social reality in the context of multi-layered meanings: The film platform
Öz
This study examines the transformation of an individual's social reality into a spatial allegory through a multi-layered artistic expression. The allegorical spatial code area under examination is the cinematographic space. The film Platform (2019) has been selected as an example of cinematographic space. The film was selected because it concretises the individual's social reality through artistic expression. The theoretical scope of the study is based on Lefebvre's theory of space (particularly the concept of representational space) and the concept of individual social reality. Therefore, the analysis of cinematic space is approached within the context of representational space. The semiotic analysis and content analysis, which deciphers the characters' forms of social existence in line with the film's narrative, constitute the holistic method of the study. In line with the analysis, the film's level of connotation regarding social reality can be explained by the synthesis of three different levels: the relationship between the individual and society; the relationship between the body and space; and the relationship between the soul and the body. This deepening transforms into a multi-layered field of interpretation. The multi-layered interpretation based on allegory, which is the projection of human social reality, can only be explained by the variability of the subject in space. The original aspect of the study is that it addresses the abstraction of social reality and the variability of the subject in space with a dialectical approach.
